While the everlasting extreme popularity of the name kills me a little inside, I am going along with it because I know it means a lot to DH, but we have agreed to give him his very own middle name. No problem! Yep I’m in the US. It wasn’t the most popular nursery song but I remember learning it in elementary school. It goes something like "There was an old man named [name]Michael[/name] [name]Finnegan[/name] he had whiskers on his chinnegan…Shaved them off and then grew in again, poor old Michael Finnegan begin again…and then it repeats over and over again…

Thank you for everyone’s suggestions and input. DH and I are really loving [name]Michael[/name] [name]Finnegan[/name] and it just feels so perfect for us, despite the nursery rhyme. He actually even thinks it’s pretty cool that there’s a rhyme by that name, and I’m starting to think it wouldn’t be too bad. It’s the only [name]Michael[/name] combo we’ve come up with that has made me feel not depressed about having to give our son such a common first name. Evidently it’s not that obscure of a rhyme, since I see several of you have heard it, but what do you all think? Certainly in Europe its pretty well known. And there are definitely some dodgy versions of it, coined by teenage boys…
[name]Michael[/name] [name]Finnegan[/name] is basically a hapless bloke, who is constantly falling off something or having his clothes burnt off or being half-drowned etc etc. Not someone I’d want as a namesake; not so much!
