Indian girl name - Sahana vs. Amara

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I’d like your thoughts on a name for our soon to arrive baby girl. We’re torn between Sahana (meaning “patience” and pronounced so that it rhymes with [name_f]Madonna[/name_f]) and [name_f]Amara[/name_f] (meaning “eternal” and pronounced as uh-marr-uh).

Thanks!

Both are nice, but [name_f]Amara[/name_f] has a prettier sound to me.

I think most people would assume Sahana was sa-hannah and not sa-honna, so I prefer [name_f]Amara[/name_f]. Plus it has some nice nicknames like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and a soft sound! Though I’ll admit I’d pick Sahana if it was sa-hannah, if only for the adorable nickname [name_f]Honey[/name_f]

[name_f]Amara[/name_f] seems more common and thus more usable to me.

[name_f]Amara[/name_f] is my personal favorite, but they are both gorgeous and I really like the meaning of Sahana. It seems like a fabulous virtue name.
I also think Sahana stands out slightly more.

I really like [name_f]Amara[/name_f]

I prefer Sahana. It’s a beautiful name and more unique. I know [name_f]Amara[/name_f] from the TV series Supernatural. Yikes!

I had assumed Sahana pronounced Sa-haa-na with the ana being like a Russian/Eastern Euro [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. Clearly wrong! Having to say it a few times as Sahonna. I think I’d use it - and [name_f]Sana[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f] or [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] as nn’s! I do like [name_f]Amara[/name_f] too, you can’t go wrong!

Sahana - so pretty! I like the nns [name_f]Sana[/name_f], [name_f]Sansa[/name_f], or [name_f]Hana[/name_f]/[name_f]Honey[/name_f] better, as well.
