Thoughts on [name]Indiana[/name]? Middle name ideas?
Thank you (:
Have you ever been to [name]Indiana[/name]? Of all the places on earth, why would want to name a son after it?
No, I haven’t. I just like the name.
I know a little [name]Indiana[/name] who is one - his parents just like the name, too. It’s cute and their baby boy is beyond adorable. He goes by [name]Indy[/name].
I think it would be nice paired with something “classic” like [name]John[/name] or [name]James[/name].
Not a great fan of state nanes. To me [name]Indiana[/name] seems to fit girls better I think it’s the ‘ana’ ending.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned [name]Indiana[/name] [name]Jones[/name]. Nonetheless, I like the name, especially the nn [name]Indy[/name]
Not my style, although [name]Indy[/name] is a cute nn for a boy.
I much prefer it on a girl; especially since the name contains ‘[name]Diana[/name]’ and ‘[name]Ana[/name]’.
I prefer this name on a girl. [name]How[/name] about [name]Indio[/name] or [name]Indigo[/name] could both be considered.
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Iker[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Zeke[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Jax[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Sailor[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Radley[/name]
[name]Indio[/name] [name]Caleb[/name]
Personally I find [name]Indiana[/name] to be 100% masculine, regardless of the “ana” part. I don’t like [name]Indio[/name] or [name]Indigo[/name].
[name]How[/name] about [name]Ian[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] nn [name]Indi[/name]? I think [name]Indiana[/name] is feminine and, in fact, I was surprised to see it as a thread title on the Boy Names board.
[name]Ian[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] is very dated imo, not my style at all. I like [name]Indiana[/name] for a boy, and I find it to be masculine. I don’t like any of the other similar names, and I’ve never even heard of it being used on girls.
I like the idea of pairing it with something classic like [name]Indiana[/name] [name]William[/name] or [name]Indiana[/name] [name]James[/name].
And for what it’s worth, there were nearly as many boys named [name]Indiana[/name] born last year as girls. I think it’s fine for a boy.
Here’s some stats from the SSA on [name]Indiana[/name] for a girl in the US:
1893 - #986
1888 - #989
1881 - #876
1880 - #604
This may or may not be relevant to you, depending on where you live, but I thought I’d just put it out there that [name]Indiana[/name] has appeared on the top 1000 for girls while it hasn’t for boys, in the US at least. Of course, I’m not trying to dissuade you from liking [name]Indiana[/name] for team blue, since it appears beyond the top 1000 for both genders currently:
Year ~~# of baby girls ~~# of baby boys
2000----------25------------------26
2001----------22------------------31
2002----------22------------------33
2003----------22------------------20
2004----------22------------------22
2005----------26------------------28
2006----------33------------------25
2007----------17------------------38
2008----------40------------------43
2009----------26------------------26
2010----------34------------------17
2011----------54------------------42
I’m not sure if you mean for a boy or a girl? Personally I prefer [name]Indiana[/name] for a girl but I know there is the [name]Indiana[/name] [name]Jones[/name] connection (however in the film he admits that he chose that name after his dog who I think was a female) plus there’s the decidingly female nicknames: [name]Indi[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Anna[/name].
US statistics are completely irrelevant to me.
@milliemm I like it on a boy.
