I am having a baby boy in a few months, my husband likes the name “indie”… I did like the name too but after looking around online it seems to be more of a girls name? Is it too girly for a boy? Opinions would be greatly appreciated
If I saw [name_f]Indie[/name_f], I’d think girl. [name_f]Indy[/name_f], on the other hand, could go either way, but in general, it swings more masculine. Usually, if a girl is [name_f]Indie[/name_f]/[name_f]Indy[/name_f], it’s because it’s a nickname for [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], etc. For boys, I’d think he’s either [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] or just [name_f]Indy[/name_f]. Either way, I think [name_f]Indy[/name_f] is fine on a boy.
I see [name_f]Indie[/name_f] as more of a girls name. I adore [name_f]Indy[/name_f] on a boy though! I like it as a nn for [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and [name_u]Indiana[/name_u].
I would choose [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and use the nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f]
I absolutely prefer [name_f]Indy[/name_f] on a boy! It always makes me think of [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] which I think is great. What little boy doesn’t want to be compared to [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]? I personally would probably use it as a nn for [name_u]Indiana[/name_u], [name_m]Inigo[/name_m], or [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], but even on it’s own I think it’s a great name! I think the [name_f]Indy[/name_f] spelling is more masculine whereas [name_f]Indie[/name_f] could potentially be taken as feminine. It definitely works as a masculine name.
I absolutely love [name_f]Indie[/name_f] on both genders, but I have it on my boys’ list, since I have far fewer boys’ favourites. I think it sounds masculine and is fine for a boy, but I also love [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] for the same reason (and few people agree with that haha).
