I adore this name!
I say ih-NEZ. I’ve also heard ih-NESS.
This was ‘my’ name in Spanish class. I’d say “EE-nez”.
I’ve met a patient by this name. She goes by EYE-nez.
I have the same concern but I love this name so much! In the UK I think it’s usually Ih-NEZ or Ih-NESS.
I normally say Ih-Ness, but I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at Ih-Nez. I think the main problem is that [name_f]Ines[/name_f] is a name used in many diffeent countries and so there are lots of legitimate way to pronounce it. I know it in a [name_m]French[/name_m] context, and so would always use a ss sound instead of a z. But I think Spanish/Portuguese speakers would use more of a zz. I don’t think there is a ‘right’ way, but I also don’t think it’s a massive problem for this particular name!
I’d say EE-ness. I’m from Croatia though, if that helps.
I would pronounce it ih-NEZ or ee-NEZ, depending if I knew the nationality of the person.
i say ee-NEZ, but ih-NEZ seems equally popular/acceptable imo. haven’t heard other pronunciations.
I’m a firm believer in ee nez as the correct, proper pronunciation. Eye nez is just straight up inaccurate.
Exactly this. I could see it being pronounced with a -ss ending as well, but putting the stress on the first syllable would seem quite strange to me.
ih-NEZ for me.
ee-NESS for me. First syllable is very short.
I’ve never even heard the ih-nezz pronunciation. I’ve only ever heard ee-nezz and eye-nezz. I typically say the latter, unless of course the person in questions says their name ee-nezz.
I work with a kiddo named [name_f]Inez[/name_f] and she pronounces it ih-NEZ.
