As most you probably know, I have a bit of an obsession with researching interesting names that I find. The following names are proving to be hard to track down anywhere. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about any of them? Thank you in advance!
I wouldn’t be surprised if Alyeleah is just a variant of [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f]. I also wonder if Armanella is a female variant of [name_m]Armand[/name_m]. These are just guesses though! What a set of unique names!
Aurrila → the Sicilian form of [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is [name_f]Aurilia[/name_f] so possibly a form of [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
Wanieta → my guess is from [name_f]Juanita[/name_f], so from ‘god is gracious’ [name_f][/name_f]- Waneta/Wanita is sometimes used
[name_f][/name_f]
Arazon → Arasan is a Tamil name meaning ‘king’? though googling seems to suggest it could relate to [name_f]Arizona[/name_f] (from Spanish zona árida)- or from the name [name_m]Araz[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]
Shamiya → seems to be an invented name, combining Shana/Shania, [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], Shamila
[name_f][/name_f]
Arazari → form of Aritsara? or maybe from the Spanish word arrasar
[name_f][/name_f]
Corneleeuw → a form of [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]? The romanian form is Corneliu
[name_f][/name_f]
Pirjelin → possibly an estonian diminutive of [name_f]Piret[/name_f] (form of [name_f]Birgitta[/name_f] or Bridget)
[name_f][/name_f]
Darlia → possibly a spelling of [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Darla[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- a variation
[name_f][/name_f]
Ipha → likely a short form of Iph- names, from ‘iphios’ meaning "strong, stout
[name_f][/name_f]
Cartmore → possibly a surname combing ‘cart’ + ‘more’ (one who makes carts + one of a dark complexion or one who lives by boggy, open landscape/or moor)
[name_f][/name_f]
Durando → possibly from Durante/Durans[name_f][/name_f] meaning “enduring”.
[name_f][/name_f]
Santarella → The surname Santarelli[name_f][/name_f] was originally a nickname given to somone who was born on All Saint’s [name_f]Day[/name_f], the 1st of [name_f]November[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- Santarella feels like it could be a form
[name_f][/name_f]
Kiada → can mean textbook in Swahili (though similar Kidada can mean queen/sister??) or to release/ hand over in Hungarian
[name_f][/name_f]
Henderita → form of Hendrick/Henry
[name_f][/name_f]
Tamalene → possibly a form of [name_m]Tamlin[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]
Ethoweine → possibly a form of Æðelwine (noble friend)
Sciapanavič – I assume this is a patronymic from the vič[name_f][/name_f] ending. I found one account of Ściapan as a Belarussian given name (see here), so it would make sense for this to mean “son of Ściapan”.
[name_f][/name_f]
Darlia [name_f][/name_f]— I think the earlier suggestion of it being related to [name_f]Darla[/name_f] makes sense, but I can also see it as a phonetic spelling of [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] / [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] in a non-rhotic accent?
[name_f][/name_f]
Orvetta – looks like a feminization of [name_m]Orville[/name_m] using the -etta ending? There were a lot of invented -etta names back in the day, so it would fit the pattern.
[name_f][/name_f]
Lorma – likely a [name_f]Lorna[/name_f] variant?
[name_f][/name_f]
Nat’l – this is often an abbreviation for “national” so maybe something related to that? [name_m]Or[/name_m] an abbreviated way of writing [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]? Especially if it’s from an older source – I know a lot of long names were often written in short hand back before most people were literate (Ex: “Wm” ranked in the US top 1000 until 1927, but it was basically just an abbreviation of William)
[name_f][/name_f]
Aristaks – maybe related to Aristarchus or Aristokles?
[name_f][/name_f]
Ovvy – looks to me like a nickname for [name_m]Ovid[/name_m] or [name_m]Orville[/name_m]? [name_m]Or[/name_m] maybe [name_m]Ovidio[/name_m] / [name_f]Ovidia[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f]
Kiada – maybe a variant of [name_f]Kiara[/name_f]? It would especially make sense in languages that use a tapped r, which sounds almost like an [name_f]English[/name_f] d sound, so maybe it’s an [name_f]English[/name_f] phonetic spelling of [name_f]Kiara[/name_f] using the tapped R?
[name_f][/name_f]
Arvine – a feminization or alternative spelling of [name_m]Arvin[/name_m]?
