So I have known 2 [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]'s one of them pronounced it like In-grid (very phonetically). The other pronounced it like In-gree ( she said the d was silent). Anyway I was just wondering if both pronoinciations are valid.
The only [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] I know pronounces it In-grid. I looked up the pronunciation online and I couldn’t find In-gree. However I could be wrong and if that is her preference, it could just be a nickname.
Same as sgsg8, though I’m not from that area in Europe where it originated, so I could be wrong.
I’ve never met an [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], but I would pronounce it eeng-rid
I’ve never met anybody with the name personally, and know very little about Norse pronunciation, but I’ve only heard it to be said In-grid or Ing-grid.
Absolutely gorgeous, feminine, strong, unique name. YES
I’ve only know 2 people with this name as well and both pronounced it phonetically (perhaps more like ing-grid than in-grid but still fairly intuitive.)
One was American and one was [name_m]German[/name_m].
I don’t know anything about the other pronunciation so I can’t offer any insight there.
I only know a few and they’ve all pronounced it In-grid. I hadn’t ever thought of the d being silent but perhaps that was a personal preference of hers.
I’ve only ever encountered it pn in-grid before
I come from a Swedish family and grew up in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is a popular name there (at least it was when I lived there) and my sister is called [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], all the pronunciation I ever heard of was Ing-grid
The only [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] I’ve ever known pronounces it “ing-rid”. I have never heard the other.
I’ve only ever heard of the ing-grid pronunciation, as well. I can’t see it being pronounced as in-gree.
Ingrid’s my Mum’s middle name, and she pronounces it with the D - I think it’s normal to drop it in the original Norse though - similar to how the D can be dropped in [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] as well.
