I love the name [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and think it sounds so beautiful, but I know it is not very common in the US, and could be more Scandinavian sounding.
Also I cannot think of a nickname, but maybe it just would not need one.
What are your thoughts on this name?

As far as I can tell, you’re correct, it’s not very common in the US, I’ve lived in the States my whole life, and I’ve never met one. It’s a lovely name, feels a little vintage, and sweet to me. For a nickname, my first thought was Indy/Indie/Indi, but I think it could also be fine without a nickname.

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is lovely! It doesn’t even rank in the U.S. top 1,000 list, so you are correct that it is rare. I personally like [name_f]Indie[/name_f] as a nickname for her, but I’ve also heard [name_f]Inga[/name_f] used, too. I could see [name_f]Greta[/name_f] as a nn as well since it’s similar in sound to the “grid” ending for me? [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_m]Grey[/name_m], and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] would also work for me as more of a stretch? Either way, it’s a lovely name, and one I’d love to be used more!

I love her and wish she was heard more!
A stretch nickname could be [name_m]Iggie[/name_m].

I think [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is gorgeous!
She’s smart, strong, elegant, polished and timeless. I really love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] with her beautiful meaning, tailored disposition and rare yet familiar feel. I think she’s stunning. Nickname wise I think [name_f]Inga[/name_f], [name_f]Indie[/name_f] & [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] all feel intuitive and fun.

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is lovely!! Distinctive with a hint of mysticalness, but also very solid, grounded; pretty but without frills.
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is rare in the US, compared to let’s say, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], but it ranked in the Top 1000 from the 1940s until the 2020s, so “rare but recognizable” would be my current descriptor. In the recent stats, it was given to 209 girls, meaning it was as popular/rare as [name_f]Ida[/name_f], [name_f]Princess[/name_f], [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_f]Mollie[/name_f], [name_m]Kit[/name_m], [name_m]Dior[/name_m], [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f], [name_f]Valley[/name_f], [name_f]Sailor[/name_f], [name_m]Hollis[/name_m], and [name_f]Kaya[/name_f].
For nicknames, [name_f]Indie[/name_f], [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] and [name_f]Idgie[/name_f] come to mind

I think I knew an Inky whose full name was [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] when I was small (in the US)! I love this name, too.

It’s such a self-assured, charming name. I am so drawn to it. I would nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f], [name_f]Inga[/name_f] or [name_m]Iggie[/name_m] as others have said.

I love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. I think it’s very Old Hollywood, unique and stylish. I always thought if I had an [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] her nickname would be [name_f]Indy[/name_f] / [name_f]Indie[/name_f].

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is one of my favorites. Two syllables does not need a nickname.

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is indeed rare in the US, but at least in my opinion not unfamiliar. I think it’s intuitive to pronounce and spell and would work here just fine

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - she sounds smart, mature, and powerful. A nice change from the sort of frilly princess/romantasy heroine vibes which are so popular rn.
[name_f]Indie[/name_f], [name_f]Idgie[/name_f], [name_f]Inga[/name_f], and [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] are exceptional options for a nickname!

[name_f]Gorgeous[/name_f] name
One of my favorites as well. I don’t think you would run into many problems actually using [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. [name_f]Pretty[/name_f] sure there was an actress in the 40s named [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] Bergmen? [name_m]Berg[/name_m] something.
it’s very pretty! I knew a [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] with a little brother [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. I like the nicknames Inny or [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] personally, but [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] has a lot of fun ones!
I prefer [name_f]Inga[/name_f], but [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is still pretty
I’m planning on using it for my daughter when she’s earthside in a few weeks.

I was wondering what a nickname would be for [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. I think I’m the only person who doesn’t like it. I think it sounds like an unattractive old woman who smells like mothballs.
No offense to anyone, just my opinion.
I think a lot of people in the gen pop feel this way about girl’s names with heavy consonants.
I love it! I live in a state with a lot of Scandinavian ancestry/heritage/culture so I’ve actually met quite a few Ingrids (including my niece!). My niece gets compliments on her name! No one has ever tried to shorten it as far as I know.
