Initials B.O. - how terrible is it?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!

My husband and I both knew kids in middle school with first and last initials B.O. that were made fun of so we swore not to use a B name with our son because our last name starts with an O. But, how bad is it? [name_m]Barack[/name_m] [name_m]Obama[/name_m] has B.O. initials.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I think you’ve answered your own question. If you both knew kids who were teased for having these initials, I think you’d be right to steer clear when it comes to naming your own children.

Can someone please explain why this is a bad thing? I don’t get it.

[name_u]BO[/name_u]=Body Odor

I don’t think it’s that bad. I think there are worse initials out there.

It’s one I would avoid but I wouldn’t rule a name out if I loved it. Kids are just mean and will always find something to bully someone about. My oldest daughters name is one I thought was pretty bully proof, minus being a little difficult to pronounce but she gets called Smelly Seni sometimes. They will always find a way.

I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

Maybe steer clear unless you loved [name_f]Bella[/name_f] or [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] so much. But, it’s not the worst you could get, I’ll give it that.

I don’t think it is a big deal at all. I’m not sure if children today even use that abbreviation. Also, I think the nickname [name_u]Bo[/name_u] is very fashionable and familiar right now. When I see [name_u]BO[/name_u] as initials, that’s what I think of.

Id love to know more before judging to quick id love to know what name youve picked. Yes B.O comes across like unfortunate initials. But people will comment on any name regardless if its a nice name or one with a slight pun to it.
I’m [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and got called [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] Ball alot or [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] Carrot as it rhymed with my surname
My husband is [name_m]Tim[/name_m] so he gets [name_m]Tim[/name_m] nice but dim.
Depending on your surname boys tend to get called by there surnames so that might be overlooked after a while. I.E smith becomes smithy at school we had a lippy (he had big lips), willis , woody. I think at the end of the day the grown ups are probably worse than the children. My dad grew up with the intials BJ! [name_m]Say[/name_m] no more.
Worse case scenario can the first name be double barrelled to break it down?

I think popularity of the first name might play a role. I’d be less inclined to give my daughter the name [name_f]Bella[/name_f] where she might end up being called [name_f]Bella[/name_f] O. a lot of the time if there are multiple [name_f]Bella[/name_f]'s in her class, vs. a name like say [name_f]Beryl[/name_f], where she’d probably just be [name_f]Beryl[/name_f]. I think “[name_f]Bella[/name_f] O.” just draws more attention to the initials. Other than that, initials aren’t really used much. Either way I don’t think it should be a deal breaker if you love the name. Kids will be kids and if someone wants to tease they’ll find a way. [name_m]Even[/name_m] a kid with the most tease-proof name out there could end up being “carrot head” because she’s a redhead (this was me as a kid!) or “four eyes” because he wears glasses.
