I’m trying my hand at writing a dystopian short story. I’ve never actually written anything dystopian before but I’ve wanted to try it for a long time 
And there’s not a lot of characters because it is a short story but I’m a little stuck. First, both my protagonists are mixed race. My male character is Caucasian (dad is from [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]) and Middle Eastern (Iraqi, Iranian). And the girl is Hispanic and Caucasian. That’s just some background info so hopefully there’s some insight on the names I’ve chosen.
Unfortunately, my male character’s name doesn’t exactly reflect his Iraqi and Iranian at the moment and that’s kind of bumming me out. Because I wanted the family’s surname to be [name_m]Maguire[/name_m] but he’s definitely an [name_m]Oisin[/name_m]…meaning his name is purely Irish 
Maybe I could give him an Arabic or Persian middle name. His father is [name_m]Donal[/name_m] and his mother is Saleen. Saleen has died and [name_m]Donal[/name_m] is remarried to a woman named [name_f]Prue[/name_f]. [name_m]Donal[/name_m] and [name_f]Prue[/name_f] have a boy and a girl named [name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] respectively.
The female protagonist has a father named [name_m]Angus[/name_m] and a mother named [name_f]Soledad[/name_f] “[name_f]Chloe[/name_f].” She’s definitely an [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and I want her full name to be [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]. I used Namehunter to find her sister’s name, [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] “[name_f]Cassie[/name_f].” I like to think her parents were name nerds which is why I gave them more…exotic names although in reality I just needed a longer name for [name_u]Ari[/name_u] (that’s not [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]) and [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] was the only sister name I liked
The protagonists have been seperated from their families and I plan on telling a “last man on [name_f]Earth[/name_f]” story (until they meet lol) from [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] and then [name_u]Ari[/name_u]'s POV but I plan on giving them a guardian/parent figure who helps them survive. Because it’s a sci-fi, the parent figure is able to shapeshift freely between male and female. I’m having a total mental blank when it comes to their name. I kind of want to give them a longer (3-4 syllables?) unisex name but all I can think of is [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] which I’m not sure I like. They also have a pet who’s half-wolf half-domesticated dog…I know it’s kind of cliché to have an animal companion but I think it just fits, haha. But I’m not so good at pet names. So, any ideas?
I guess the TL;DR version of this is, I would appreciate input on my sibsets as well as the parents’ names. Are they too mismatched or do they go play together? And any ideas for the longer (3-4 syllable) unisex name? Lastly, what about a name for a half-wolf half-dog? Thank you ^^
