Insecure, Please Help?

I find this a bit difficult to talk about, so I’m sorry if it’s a bit of a chaotic rant, but here goes nothing.

Full disclosure: Not expecting, and S/O is wonderfully supportive about my list.

I’ve struggled for quite a while with feeling confident in my name list - I endured some bullying over the names that I like in the past (friends telling me they had to approve the names I liked because “if we were really friends, their opinion matters too”, exes using horrible derogatory terms to describe the type of parents who would use a name I liked, being told that they’d be embarrassed to introduce their young family member as an old-fashioned name, etc.), and after some recent comments, I’m kind of feeling vulnerable/insecure about my girls list.

I know they’re not to everyone’s tastes. I don’t expect everyone to like the same names as me. But, I could really use some convincing here - I’m beginning to feel pretty ashamed and embarrassed of the names I like currently, myself, and I don’t like how it makes me feel.

So, convince me, do I stick with my list, or do I start fresh? What names should I keep? I’ve starred family names on my list.

There are some names on your list that I personally would not use because it is very important to me that the names I choose be professional. But that’s the beautiful thing about names, my tastes does not have to be the same as yours! You have some great names on your list, so starting over is not needed. Find people that accept your opinions as much as you’re internalizing theirs.

Thank you everyone, I think I just needed to hear some positivity about my names, rather than comments that have me feeling embarrassed. For the record, S/O is totally supportive and wonderful about names - it’s other relatives and such that are less so.

I like the majority of the names on your list; some of the “-ie” names are a bit cutesy for my liking, but generally the names on your list are great! I would NOT NOT NOT (sorry if that seemed aggressive) start over on your list! If people make fun of you for wanting a daughter named [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or even [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], then they are either a) jealous of you or b) not truly your friends. Your name list is lovely!

There is not a single name on here that seems weird to me. Our naming styles aren’t the same but your names are nice!! I’m actually confused by your friend’s comments?? but then again, I told my friend I loved [name_u]Louise[/name_u], [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] & [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] which I feel are pretty ‘normal’ and she replied ‘those are all ugly old aunt names.’ I like the nicknamey names a lot, especially in with the more old & coming back names (some of them, like [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], are both.) No need to start over!!!

I’m looking over this list and I don’t see anything wrong or embarrassing about any of these names.
The only names I see that I might only consider as a middle are [name_f]Honey[/name_f] and [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], but in the right family I think even those names can be pulled off as a first name.
Your list is perfect for you and your future family. [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t change it unless you yourself want something new.

You have a beautiful list! I don’t see any reason to feel insecure; the only name I dislike on there is [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] and that’s just me. I also prefer [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] over [name_f]Darcie[/name_f], but somehow [name_f]Darcie[/name_f] fits with your list better.

I love the names on your list! I think that they’re all wonderful and the only one I can see concern for is [name_f]Honey[/name_f]!

Some of the names on your list that are on my list too are [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], & [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]! @ashleyann8 - Thank you! :gift_heart:

@Etymology - [name_u]Love[/name_u] seeing [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] get some love :sparkling_heart: Thank you!

@ehrob1 - Thank you! :sparkling_heart: I think I know that in the end, if it did come down to it and I chose something more “normal” that I like, but didn’t love (like say, [name_u]Addison[/name_u]), I would probably end up regretting it down the line.

@zoe_fitz - I get the less professional thing for sure - I know for some people it’s super important. I’ve just never been able to commit to it, haha. And thank you, I definitely needed to hear that :two_hearts:

@sidney_lucille - Not aggressive at all - I definitely need it, haha. I do get that the -ie endings are a bit cutesy, but I guess that’s my vibe? lol I’m not really sure how to describe it, but I’ve always gravitated to them. Thank you :gift_heart:

@Caramel107 - Thank you :sparkling_heart:

@auroracallista - Thank you :two_hearts: I was a bit confused too, because I know little girls with some of the names off my list, and they generally get complimented, but everyone’s different, I suppose? lol. I do get the “ugly old fashioned” comment though lol. I adore old-school nicknames as firsts, though! [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] was my grandma’s name, and I always though hers was cool.

@whatchamacallit - Thanks! :gift_heart: I don’t think I do actually want something new, I just wanted to feel comfortable with what I liked again - I was quite confident in my list a week or so ago which is what makes this all the more frustrating, lol.

@jonquils - Thank you so much, my friend :sparkling_heart: Anxiety sure does like to convince you of those things, doesn’t it? lol. I know that I was getting that warm, fuzzy feeling over a few names on my list, so maybe I can get that feeling back!

@ellarepea - Thank you :two_hearts: , I did ponder [name_u]Darcey[/name_u] over [name_f]Darcie[/name_f], but the -ie definitely did seem to vibe a bit better with the other names I like! I think the insecurity is stemming from old comments that are kind of, nagging at me, haha.

@sophia_elena - Thank you! :gift_heart: [name_f]Honey[/name_f]’s one I’m more likely to use as a MN, mainly bc I know what kind of reaction it would get, haha. At least [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] has the 90s tv show going for it, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

@voughtlori - That’s true! LOL Nameberry’s about the only place I feel like I have a “normal” taste in names! :stuck_out_tongue: Thank you! :two_hearts:

I can understand. We all love names so much and we want other people to like our names too because they feel like such a part of us.
The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things though. Stick to what you love. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
Sometimes if your style happens to be a little outside of the norm in your circle of friends you just have to own it. Plus, honestly no one has the right to name your child but you and your SO.
All the names I used to like when I was younger were really unique/a bit strange then but they are not even odd anymore so who’s to say what other names will catch on in the future.

Definitely! I did feel a bit better when I saw [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] appearing in the US top 1000 (I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], but close enough, right?). Maybe they’ll catch on and become a bit more mainstream! Some of them are starting to, at least!

I bet you they do. Seems like nickname names are always popular in [name_f]England[/name_f]. And some names get popular there first and then gain popularity over here. You’re just ahead of the curve with nickname names

I love literally every name on your list! You dont need approval from friends or even relatives. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom doesn’t like [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], the name we chose for our son due in [name_u]December[/name_u]. But she’s now forced to get used it and its growing on her. You don’t have to share the name at all before giving birth. Its yours and your partner’s choice.

My favorites are:
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolly[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]

These have all been on my list at one point or another so you are in good company!

I really can’t see what’s objectively wrong with your list - they’re such beautiful names! Whoever is bullying you about your name choices clearly does not have as classy taste as you!

I would not redo it!

I love your list. Maybe you are ahead of the trend in your area because all of your names seem perfectly familiar to me. Were some of these comments said in a joking way? It might be good to let others know it hurts you when they criticize your taste in names.
