Inspiration needed! Baby girl due in Jan 2022

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all!

I’m looking for a name for my baby girl due in 2022.

Myself and my husband like the names:

[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]

But having spoken to a few people however, I’m finding these names increasing popular. By all means I’m not trying to be too out there but I’d like something where there isn’t 2/3 children in their class with the same name.

Our last name starts with a B and is two syllables. Any inspiration would be greatly appreciated!

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (I know it’s so old school, but there’s a charm there i love and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is too cute!)
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]

I don’t think [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] are getting too popular

There is pretty much no chance a child with these names would have 2-3 kids in their class with the same name, except maybe POSSIBLY [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. Common names are WAY less common than when we were growing up, so the Ashley/Jessica/ problem largely doesn’t exist anymore. To really understand this, I think it can be helpful to look up the percentage of girls born with each of these names in 2020, and compare it to names with the same percentage (not ranking) in the year you were born. So for example, in 2020 [name_f]Margot[/name_f] (#234) was 0.07% of girls. [name_m]Say[/name_m] you were born 1993 - in that year, 0.07% of girls were named [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I’m willing to bet you have not encountered two of those in a class growing up, or even one. All of the rest of your list aside from [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] are even less common than that! Popularity is really not a concern with those names - even if they are getting “more popular” they are still quite rare.

Firstly congratulations!

You have a great list and honestly I do not believe that [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] are rising in popularity. In regards to [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] & [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] they are slightly more popular but not so much that they share their names with multiple people so don’t panic so much essentially just listen too @textrovert as they are a hundred percent right :hugs:

You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Clemency[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
[name_f]Rafaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

Good luck

Thanks @textrovert you make some very valid points!

I think perhaps it varies from Country and then area.

In some ways it’s not a bad thing to hear names you like used from time to time, after all it’s nice to know other people like them!

Thank you @tori101!

A lovely list of names :relaxed:

I’ve been thinking of [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] as an alternative to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]! A bit tricky with nicknames but I love a [name_u]French[/name_u] name

[name_f]Rafaela[/name_f] is also fab. I like the idea of them being [name_m]Raffy[/name_m] for short.

[name_f]Emeline[/name_f]

I love the names on your list! Depending on where you are, I agree with other posters that I don’t think you’d find 2-3 kids in a class with these names (except maybe [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and maaaaaybe Margot). Despite its growing popularity, my favourite from your list is [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. I think you have a really nice style of classic but not common names, so I’ll try to suggest some more in that vain (sorry for any repeats!)…

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]

[name_u]Abilene[/name_u]

[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

Thanks @bounceparty!

I agree, I think perhaps it’s one of those things where as soon as you see a name you feel like you then see it everywhere

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband partially likes [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] with [name_u]Penny[/name_u] as a nn.

I love Talulah from your list. I feel like it sounds like a mischievous name but in a fun way!

Thanks @CassOmia! [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is a cute option :relaxed:

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - currently in the US top 200; have met 3 of varying spellings. This one seems very trendy to me and I think it will likely keep increasing in popularity.
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - currently in the US top 500; only met one, has been very slowly and steadily increasing in popularity since it hit the top 500. I think it’s maybe hit it’s peak.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - has ranked in the US top 500 since 2009; never met one, but I think it could become more popular due to Bridgerton on Netflix
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - has ranked in the US top 100 since 2013 and the top 50 since 2014; I have met a couple, ranging from older teens to late elementary school age.
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f] - hasn’t ranked in the US top 1000 since 1884; never met one, doesn’t seem like a name that’s going to dramatically rise anytime soon
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] - hasn’t ranked in the US top 1000 since 1970; I’ve only ever met 1, mid teens age

I think you can keep [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] on your list! But some other suggestions are (sorry for any repeats):
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Aloisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Odessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Yseult[/name_f]
[name_f]Opaline[/name_f]
[name_u]Antonia[/name_u]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

Thank you so much for sharing these stats @MagnoliaE!

I’m in the UK so I think the figures vary here but I’m sure they share a common ranking.

I have to agree I think Bridgerton may have an impact on [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] in the next year or so which will be interesting to see!

[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] is a pretty option, I wonder if people would find it hard to pronounce?

[name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], and [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] are gorgeous and I think only the first 2 will be quite common among kids her age. Based off these here’s some more ideas:

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Monica[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Calanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Viviana[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nefeli[/name_f] or Nepheli to get [name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f]
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f]
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f]
[name_f]Selestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Yvaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Vionnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lune[/name_f]
[name_f]Vittoria[/name_f]

There’s also [name_f]Eudora[/name_f] if you find that [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] is too hard to pronounce or too connected to the royals? (and it has similar sounds to Dorothea!). [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] are more common in [name_f]England[/name_f] (Margot by a lot! It’s in the top 100), while [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is a little less common (still in top 100 but not top 50), and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] are about the same.

Thanks @janeybaby

I think your right. I know a few friends of friends that have used [name_f]Margot[/name_f] recently. It’s a lovely option that feels rather chic to me.

[name_f]Etta[/name_f] is lovely  I quite like [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] as a longer form
