[name_m]Just[/name_m] for the heck of it, I thought I’d throw down some of the most interesting birth announcements from my town’s hospital in the last few months. Some of them surprised me, since I think of my town as being rather conservative in many regards. I’m definitely feeling a little more positive about actually using some of the names I love. (These are all first and middle combos.)
Depending on the last name, I think [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] [name_f]Italia[/name_f] could be really pretty! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_f]Italia[/name_f] for several reasons, but well…LOL Not so much as a drop of Italian blood in me, so unless I end up with an Italian husband, it might seem just a little strange for me to ever use it!
I liked that one, too! Swooned over Everdeen [name_f]Leora[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f], though! (And I wouldn’t necessarily let that stop you. No idea if [name_m]Alec[/name_m] [name_u]Baldwin[/name_u] has a drop of Irish in him. Either way, it didn’t stop him from using [name_f]Ireland[/name_f].)
Anyway - anyone have any interesting birth announcements from a local paper, circle of friends, Facebook feed, what-have-you?
I like
Haddie [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] Italian
althouh I wouldn’t consider any of them other than Haddie [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
I like:
[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Star[/name_f] (thought this was adorable in the middle. Wonder if she’s of Native American ancestry or something?)
Everdeen [name_f]Leora[/name_f] – Not a big fan of Everdeen, but this combo is swoon-worthy.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]
I don’t know how interesting these are, but I added them anyway in case you’re interested. I live in Scandinavia and middles are not that common here, so most of them are just ____ (FN) ____ (mom’s LN) _____ (dad’s LN).
Newest announcements from my city:
[name_m]Henrik[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Dennis[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
Amund
[name_m]Lars[/name_m]
[name_m]Leif[/name_m] – This one is super dated and very unexpected to see. Kind of as if you named your son [name_m]Roger[/name_m] in the US, I guess
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Aksel[/name_m]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Lorenz[/name_m]
[name_m]Leon[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Matheo[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Andreas[/name_m]
[name_u]Storm[/name_u] [name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u] [name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Jona[/name_m]
[name_f]Elvira[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Sigrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Celina[/name_f]
[name_f]Martine[/name_f]
[name_u]Julie[/name_u]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] – I was pleasantly surprised to see this! [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is extremely rare here.
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]-[name_f]Emilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalie[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Nelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]
[name_f]Una[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_m]Alec[/name_m] is of Irish ancestry, although I think he probably just picked it because it’s the new thing ([name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], for instance… why?!).
Anyway, onto the list. I think most of these are God awful. I think Everdeen [name_f]Leora[/name_f] is gorgeous. Although it just reminds me of [name_f]Katniss[/name_f] Everdeen and THG, it made me swoon. I thought [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Star[/name_f] was an adorable middle name too. Rather childish and it’ll probably make her cringe when she’s a teenager, but still adorable.
The birth announcements are looking a bit empty over here, but I think [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] is so cool! [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is cute too, and I’m intrigued by [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] Sene.
I wondered that as well. The little girl didn’t look like it from the newborn photos available, but you can’t necessarily tell at a glance. There’s a decent-sized Ojibwe population in my area, though, so it’s possible. Either way, it’s inventive and definitely something I wouldn’t have thought of!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a small sampling. Some of these, admittedly, are really cringe-worthy. But some are actually very pretty and it’s kind of cool to see them in use. Whether you like them all or not, I think it’s an interesting exercise to see what people are actually naming babies in one’s community as opposed to hypothetical name combos on Nameberry (as fun as those are to toss around). I also think it’s fascinating to see how trends do or don’t play out - the ever-present [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] in the middle, for example. I didn’t even include every Something-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] and Something-[name_f]Grace[/name_f] combo I found.
[name_f]Madilynn[/name_f] [name_f]Doris[/name_f] is my favorite, as well as [name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f], but I wish they were spelled [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Doris[/name_f] and [name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f].
