I wanted to introduce our daughter [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Lea[/name_f] “Evie” who was born in [name_f]February[/name_f]!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (the last syllable rhymes with mine) was my great-grandmother’s name, the mother of the grandmother who I have always been the closest too. The original [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] immigrated from [name_f]England[/name_f] over 100 years ago, and family legend says her name was inspired by [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_m]Booth[/name_m] of the [name_f]Salvation[/name_f] [name_m]Army[/name_m]. I have loved this name since I first heard it, even before I knew it was my great-grandmother’s. In addition to the family connection, I love that it’s a long, vintage, name with princess vibes but has a lot of nicknames so our child will have room to define herself throughout her life. We particularly like that there are some more gender-neutral/masculine nickname options [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Evan[/name_m], [name_m]Vann[/name_m], [name_m]Angel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- so if princess is not her style she has options. We are using [name_f]Evie[/name_f] for now because my husband had a dream once he had a daughter named [name_f]Evie[/name_f] so it felt meant to be!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lea[/name_f] (pronounced like Lee) is an old [name_f]English[/name_f] word meaning meadow. It was my mom’s middle name. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom died shortly before I gave birth and never got to meet her granddaughter. She knew we were going to name her [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] but we were uncertain on a middle name until a few weeks before my mom died. I knew I wanted to honor my mom, but mom didn’t like her first name, and my husband didn’t think it flowed well with the first name which was a big priority for him. When I suggested [name_f]Lea[/name_f] as a compromise, he instantly liked it as did my mom when we told her.
[name_f][/name_f]I have been a name nerd my whole life, and getting the chance to name a child has been the greatest honor and the greatest thrill. I’m so excited to share this name with this community!
