Ira Barnaby?

What do you think? This is one both my dh and I agree on, and though it doesn’t have much of a nature tie, I still find it old fashioned and charming (and in Basque, [name_m]Ira[/name_m] can be considered a short of [name_f]Irati[/name_f] which means fern…so stretchy but still a nature tie)

But is it too out there? Is [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] just setting him up for teasing? Is [name_m]Ira[/name_m] too weird and should we give him a more common fall back as a middle?

For our girls we gave them unique names, but they had a familiar nickname and a popular middle just as a fall back if they decided unique wasn’t the way they wanted to go. So not having a nickname or more common middle makes me hesitate.

Absolutely love [name_m]Ira[/name_m] Barnaby!! He sounds very classic and kind of academia-chic, which I really like!
I don’t think he’s too stuffy, and like your subtle nature tie. Absolute gorgeous name!!

[name_m]Ira[/name_m] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] is lovely! Maybe you could make a stretchy nickname?

There’s the obvious [name_f]Irie[/name_f] & Ibie, but you could also use [name_m]Barney[/name_m], [name_m]Arnie[/name_m], [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_m]Abe[/name_m], [name_m]Baz[/name_m], or [name_m]Barnes[/name_m] from [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m].

[name_m]Ira[/name_m] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] is so lovely - gentle but charming! I’ve known multiple Barnabys so it feels fairly normal where I am :person_shrugging: [name_m]Ira[/name_m] is bright and solid, unique but not totally out there. It’s a beautiful combo!

In terms of nicknames, you could get…

[name_m]Ry[/name_m]
[name_m]Bear[/name_m]
[name_m]Rabbie[/name_m] / [name_m]Robbie[/name_m]
[name_m]Ari[/name_m] (anagram)

I like [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]- it’s a vintage, unexpected middle name. However, [name_m]Ira[/name_m] feels too feminine (especially if your girls names also end in “a”)

Tbh the softer sound is a big part of the appeal for me. [name_m]Ira[/name_m] is one of the few 'ends in ‘a’ boy names that has never charted for girls (like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] & Noah).

And luckily our girls don’t end in ‘a’! (Though Idk if it would bother me if they did, if Im being completely honest)

But the positive feedback on [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] is reassuring, I wasn’t sure how it would be perceived!

[name_m]Ira[/name_m] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] is so cute! I think that [name_m]Ira[/name_m] is easy; it’s unique & a little quirky, but not too out there to be usable. It’s familiar & easy to say & spell, so those are nice qualities. It’s also just so charming & smart & friendly.

I get your hesitation with [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] being a bit much for teasing; but that’s why it’s in the middle name spot. It’s perfect there with the lovable [name_m]Ira[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] is adorable, but it’s not usable as a fn to me because it’s just a bit too quirky. Middle name though…absolutely!

By the way, I love the stretch-y nature tie of [name_m]Ira[/name_m]. Good job! I’m always hoping every name I love has a nature tie even if you have to search a little for it.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
