Ira or Lyra?

As many of you may know, I adore the name [name]Ira[/name] for a boy. Recently I have refound one of my old favourites for a girl, [name]Lyra[/name]. Obviously I could never use both, and I am torn between which I like better!

Which do you prefer, [name]Ira[/name] for a boy or [name]Lyra[/name] for a girl?

Hmmm, that’s a pretty tough one. They’re both wonderful! I think I prefer [name]Ira[/name] for a boy. It’s so underused and it gives me all of those warm fuzzy feelings. It’s handsome in its simplicity.

I like [name]Ira[/name] as well

I like both, but prefer [name]Lyra[/name] for a girl. [name]Ira[/name] is a great name, but I see it potentially coming over to the girl side… I actually met a girl named [name]Ira[/name] recently. [name]Lyra[/name] is a really pretty name, and not one I see used a lot.

I also prefer [name]Lyra[/name]. It’s beautiful and musical and I love it. [name]Ira[/name] is very feminine to me, even though i’m aware that it’s a boys name, and I just generally like it less.

[name]Lyra[/name] is so pretty. I much prefer it to [name]Ira[/name], which just reminds me of a Massachusetts Toyota dealership. But that is a very regional qualm with the name, I understand

I like [name]Lyra[/name] better, [name]Ira[/name] is a bit too feminine for me.

[name]Lyra[/name] is one of my favorite names! Great literary character, too.

[name]Lyra[/name]. I don’t know if [name]Ira[/name] is ready for a comeback.

[name]Ira[/name] for a boy.

I may be in the minority, but I pronounce them differently. EYE-rah and LEER-uh. I assume you’re pronouncing [name]Lyra[/name] as LIE-rah which is also nice (I personally prefer LEER-uh).

Definitely [name]Lyra[/name], though, either pronunciation. [name]Ira[/name] makes me think Ire or Irate, and along the lines of [name]Maddy[/name] I don’t understand why anyone would name their child something that sounds like/references ‘Angry’.

I adore the name [name]Lyra[/name]. People tend to not like it but I think it’s beautiful.

For me, [name]Lyra[/name] is LIE-ruh and Lira is LEER-uh. I don’t like Lira at all, which is why I’d probably never use the name.

[name]Ira[/name] just feels scummy to me, like it would be the name of a rude car salesman in a movie.

I really prefer [name]Ira[/name].

[name]Ira[/name], of course.

[name]Ira[/name] Glass makes the name super cool. Also, I love soft boys’ names, but that’s just me.

I too like [name]Ira[/name] most (along with [name]Ian[/name] and [name]Ike[/name])
There are so many short lilting girls names starting with L to choose from, but there aren’t that many good alternatives to [name]Ira[/name].
[name]Leda[/name] is my favourite right now, but also Leto, [name]Lark[/name], [name]Lorna[/name], Lumi, [name]Luna[/name], [name]Liesel[/name], Lieve, Lirit and [name]Lilou[/name].

I prefer [name]Lyra[/name]. [name]Ira[/name], in my mind, is an old man’s name.

Tough choice, but I think I prefer [name]Ira[/name]. It’s interesting so many people think it sounds feminine… I would be totally thrown if I ever met a girl named [name]Ira[/name], it’s all boy to me! I think dearest made a great point, there’s so many beautiful ‘L’ names to chose from on the girls side, it makes it a bit easier to let go of [name]Lyra[/name]… I like [name]Ira[/name] & [name]Lillian[/name]
