Irene, Irina, or Irena?

Pick one. I would put this as a poll if only I knew how.

Are you considering these names? I guess it depends on the feel you are going for. [name]Irene[/name] is down to earth and simple. [name]Irina[/name] and [name]Irena[/name] seem russian/exotic.

I completely agree with boyandgirl. Personally, I would choose [name]Irina[/name] because it sounds like such a elegant name. And it’s the way that my Russian friends would spell it.

I have a friend who’s mom is [name]Irini[/name]. I think it’s a great twist on [name]Irene[/name].

I prefer [name]Irena[/name]. I know too many [name]Irene[/name] and [name]Irina[/name] sounds very russian to me.

[name]Irena[/name]! I love it. I also love [name]Irene[/name], but between the two, I prefer [name]Irena[/name].

Oh, such a tough one! I like both [name]Irene[/name] and [name]Irina[/name] a lot, but I think I’ll have to go with [name]Irina[/name] - it feels spunkier. [name]Irena[/name] just seems misspelled to me.

[name]Irene[/name]! It’d be so refreshing on a little girl.

Definitely [name]Irina[/name]. [name]Irene[/name] just sounds like a mom name (i.e. of the baby boomer era; lots of my friends growing up (I’m 32) had moms named [name]Irene[/name]). So I have a really hard time picturing a child or teenager named [name]Irene[/name]. But [name]Irina[/name] has an somewhat exotic thing going for it.

[name]Irena[/name] is my favorite (It’s Polish!). I like [name]Irene[/name] but pronounced in almost every other accent but English. I don’t have any connections to [name]Irina[/name], but it’s very exotic. (Also too, I had Russian friends express that Americans don’t say [name]Irina[/name] like they do).

I like [name]Irene[/name] and then [name]Irena[/name].

Of course, the fn largely depends on the surname but I would choose…

1 [name]Irene[/name] - this is a family name for me so it trumps the others. Down-to-earth and friendly choice. Good for longer surnames.
2 [name]Irina[/name] - lLush and exotic. If you surname is one or two syllables, this would be fine.
3 [name]Irena[/name] - a legitimate spelling but it just looks odd to me.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Irena[/name].
[name]Irene[/name] second.

[name]Irena[/name] it has a kick to it x

I really like [name]Irena[/name], it’s different.

I’d choose [name]Irene[/name]. But I like [name]Irina[/name] and [name]Irena[/name] too.

I like simple [name]Irene[/name]. It sounds better to me than [name]Irena[/name].

I like [name]Irina[/name] a lot, [name]Irena[/name] falls a touch flat, and [name]Irene[/name] is very flat imo.

I like [name]Irina[/name] best. It’s the name of the protagonist of Chekhov’s play Three Sisters.
