Irene Louise

Anyone have thought on [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]? It has been growing on us but we also keep hearing that it is too old fashioned. Sibling is [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Ennesley. Thanks for your thoughts and help with narrowing names earlier!

Funnily enough I’ve always thought of [name_f]Irene[/name_f] as a old ladies name, however I have just seen a play of [name_f]Enid[/name_f] Blyton’s [name_f]Malory[/name_f] [name_m]Towers[/name_m] and one of the characters (a teenage girl) was called [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and actually I liked it, although [name_f]Malory[/name_f] [name_m]Towers[/name_m] is technically a period drama, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] actually sounded quite fresh and sweet. Also [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a lovely combination

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] is one of those names that feels very old fashioned yet it has a lot of modern or on trend feeling sounds - there’s something of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] about it. [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is distinct and pretty

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] doesn’t strike me as an old lady name. It reminds me of [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_m]Adler[/name_m]. Due to the modern remakes of [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m], it doesn’t sound dated to me, just classic. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a very pretty name. The whole combination is classic and elegant

I understand why people think that BUT:

  1. it still has a pretty sound similar to other trendy names that end in an -een sound
  2. the pattern of vintage name revival means you’ll probably be ahead of the curve
  3. the reaction people will have to “I like this name” versus “this is my baby, [name_f]Irene[/name_f]” is going to be different and will make their associations with [name_f]Irene[/name_f] adapt
  4. it sounds really sweet on a baby and I think is an unexpected yet very fitting addition to [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]

The one thing I’m not a huge fan of is how it sounds with [name_f]Louise[/name_f], eye-REEN loo-EES feels like a lot of EE sound to me but ultimately flow isn’t the most important thing, and I as someone who’s been on Nameberry for an obscene amount of time am definitely more picky about that sort of thing that your average person
