We are from [name_u]Ireland[/name_u], and where neither are used at the minute.
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] is the more old fashioned of the 2 which made my partner prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f], but what is holding me back from [name_f]Irina[/name_f] is we aren’t Eastern European.
For [name_f]Irene[/name_f] we decided on 2 middle names, so her full name would be [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f].
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] is harder and I can’t think of anything at the minute, except [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f] - brighter, sweeter and fresher - however, you seem more comfortable with [name_f]Irene[/name_f] - it’s sharp and sleek with a gentle meaning too. I’d like to meet a little [name_f]Irene[/name_f]!
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is elegant and classic!
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is nice!
Both are lovely, but [name_f]Irina[/name_f] sounds a little fresher which I like! I think it’s a rather international choice (as you can see on the name page, it’s been in the top 100 in Portugal, so it’s not only loved in Eastern Europe!). But if your heart’s not in it, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is a great choice too!
I’d go with [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. Others are saying [name_f]Irina[/name_f] is fresher, but as an Eastern European, I disagree. [name_f]Irina[/name_f] feels dated here, whereas [name_f]Irene[/name_f] has had a long enough break in the English-speaking world to be fresh again. And I would be surprised to meet an [name_f]Irina[/name_f] who wasn’t Eastern or Northern European. Plus, I think [name_f]Irene[/name_f] goes better with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I like both but I’m leaning [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. Its old school but in the same way as other vintage names that are coming back into fashion so I don’t think it would be weird or dusty on a new baby.
I prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f], it has a bit more sparkle to me. However, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is a lovely choice and if that’s the one I would go for it.
Both names are beautiful but I think I prefer [name_f]Irene[/name_f] a touch more. It’s timeless and sophisticated, plus, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is a combination to DIE for!
