Irina or Irene

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!

We are from [name_u]Ireland[/name_u], and where neither are used at the minute.

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] is the more old fashioned of the 2 which made my partner prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f], but what is holding me back from [name_f]Irina[/name_f] is we aren’t Eastern European.

For [name_f]Irene[/name_f] we decided on 2 middle names, so her full name would be [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f].

[name_f]Irina[/name_f] is harder and I can’t think of anything at the minute, except [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f] - brighter, sweeter and fresher - however, you seem more comfortable with [name_f]Irene[/name_f] - it’s sharp and sleek with a gentle meaning too. I’d like to meet a little [name_f]Irene[/name_f]!

[name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is elegant and classic!

[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is nice!

Some ideas: [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Fern[/name_u], [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Alma[/name_u], [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]

Both are lovely, but [name_f]Irina[/name_f] sounds a little fresher which I like! I think it’s a rather international choice (as you can see on the name page, it’s been in the top 100 in Portugal, so it’s not only loved in Eastern Europe!). But if your heart’s not in it, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is a great choice too! :yellow_heart:

I think [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is lovely, I would go with [name_f]Irene[/name_f]

I don’t think [name_f]Irina[/name_f] has to be Eastern European! I prefer it.

I prefer [name_f]Irene[/name_f] to be honest.

For the other [name_f]Irina[/name_f] middle, try:

[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Yvette[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Nairne[/name_u]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Trista[/name_f]

or, if you don’t mind if [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is second

[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_u]Holly[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f] [name_f]Georgette[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

Hopefully these help!

One idea might be to have a Y ending middle and then use Irene nn Irenie/Irenee.

Eg Irene Alexandra Elsie nn Irenee

I also know someone call Irenee as a first name and it sounds awesome esp with her last name.

I prefer Irene to Irina but only with Irenee to enliven and soften it. A similar name I love is Ingrid.

Edit: with Elizabeth as first middle, realised Irenee as a nickname really works (ie Irene + E for Elizabeth).

I’d go with [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. Others are saying [name_f]Irina[/name_f] is fresher, but as an Eastern European, I disagree. [name_f]Irina[/name_f] feels dated here, whereas [name_f]Irene[/name_f] has had a long enough break in the English-speaking world to be fresh again. And I would be surprised to meet an [name_f]Irina[/name_f] who wasn’t Eastern or Northern European. Plus, I think [name_f]Irene[/name_f] goes better with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

I like both but I’m leaning [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. Its old school but in the same way as other vintage names that are coming back into fashion so I don’t think it would be weird or dusty on a new baby.

I prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f], it has a bit more sparkle to me. However, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is a lovely choice and if that’s the one I would go for it.

[name_f]Irina[/name_f]

Both names are beautiful but I think I prefer [name_f]Irene[/name_f] a touch more. It’s timeless and sophisticated, plus, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is a combination to DIE for!

One thing I think about [name_f]Irene[/name_f] vs irina is that you can use the nickname [name_u]Ira[/name_u] (if you want) which I think is so pretty

I have a slight prefer for [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. It sounds gentle and pretty, compared to Irina’s slightly harsher look.
