[name]Violet[/name]. It was my favourite name for a while, but due to rising popularity I turned to the more unusual [name]Viola[/name]. I love the strong, sophisticated feel of [name]Violet[/name]. [name]Iris[/name] is pretty too, but more middle name material to me.

I think [name]Iris[/name] is beautiful. I don’t care for the name [name]Violet[/name].

I like both names for different reasons. [name]Iris[/name] means “rainbow” in Greek mythology and she was the messenger of the Gods. It’s a flower name and also a part of the eye. [name]Iris[/name] was No# 316 in popularity last year in the US which translates to 997 girls being given this name. The name [name]Violet[/name] is the colour of royalty, mystery, creativity and moodiness. The flower signifies modesty. [name]Violet[/name] was No# 123 last year (or 2,531 girls) and the Spanish form [name]Violeta[/name] just entered the top 1,000 at No# 998 (or 250 girls). I prefer [name]Violet[/name] a tad more than [name]Iris[/name]. I love the rainbow connection of [name]Iris[/name] but I’m not too crazy about the eye part association.

They’re both stunning, but I prefer [name]Violet[/name], mostly for personal reasons. Purple is my grandmother’s and my favorite color, and it’s just softer, and sweeter, and it has some really cute nns, too ([name]Vivi[/name] and [name]Lettie[/name] are my favorites, but Vio, [name]Aya[/name], and maybe even [name]Lila[/name] could work). [name]Iris[/name] is stunning and I love it, but it just seems too strong for me on most days, and I can’t imagine using it. I would definitely consider it as a MN, though.

While I like [name]Violet[/name], I love [name]Iris[/name]. To me, [name]Iris[/name] is a much stronger sounding name. The mythological goddess connection also distinguishes [name]Iris[/name]-- it’s not just another flower amongst the botanical names that are so popular right now. The other thing that makes me really prefer [name]Iris[/name] is the popularity factor. [name]Violet[/name] has climbed the charts so quickly in recent times that it runs the risk of sounding “trendy” and “dated” a few years down the road. The historical usage for [name]Iris[/name] has been steadier, which I always think is a good thing.

I would say it’s a tie for me! [name]Violet[/name] is so pretty, but I can’t stop thinking of “violent” when I say it outloud. [name]Iris[/name] is a feminine, but strong name for a girl. (And I love the flower!)

I like them both but strongly prefer [name]Violet[/name].

[name]Iris[/name] is the better name. It’s not used as much, and it has lovely meanings attached to it. Not to mention that the [name]Iris[/name] flower is my favorite flower, but that might show me as biased.

While both are pretty, I prefer [name]Violet[/name]. I can picture an older [name]Iris[/name], but not a toddler [name]Iris[/name], whereas with [name]Violet[/name], I can picture it at any age.

I would choose [name]Iris[/name], because it is rarer, and to me, it is more sophisticated, elegant, and even mysterious. I love [name]Violet[/name], but I think that [name]Iris[/name] has something special to her, especially because she has been underused.

[name]Iris[/name] is one of the top 2 on my list. [name]Violet[/name] is nice too, you can’t go wrong really.

[name]Both[/name] are beautiful!! I can see [name]Violet[/name] more on a little girl, but not as much on an older girl. However, I cannot see [name]Iris[/name] as much on a little girl, but I think it would age very well. You cannot go wrong with either choice

I like them both but I sway towards [name]Violet[/name].

[name]Iris[/name], I’m sort of sick of [name]Violet[/name]

[name]Both[/name] are very pretty. I agree with above poster that it is hard to imagine [name]Iris[/name] on a young girl or [name]Violet[/name] on an adult. What a conundrum! Not sure I am much help. [name]Iris[/name] is a stunning flower, but [name]Violet[/name] is softer.
