Iris

Talk to me about [name]Iris[/name], please. I love everything about it - the nature association, the fact that she was the [name]Goddess[/name] of the [name]Rainbow[/name], the fact that it’s an underused classic. My two hesitations are sound (is it too hissy, ending in an S? Also, will people make the possessive of her name wrong, and will that be annoying?), and the fact that there aren’t really any nicknames. Or are there? Anyway, tell me what you think about [name]Iris[/name]. Thanks!

[name]Iris[/name] is everything you said and beautiful!

[name]Iris[/name] is my absolute favorite girls’ name. Honestly, my biggest worry about it is that’s it’s TOO perfect - that it may explode in popularity, or that it’s somehow bland because of how difficult it is for me to find anything wrong with it.

I like that it ends in an ‘s’. It doesn’t strike me as being hissy, personally. Regarding the possessive of her name … I’m a pretty big grammar nerd, but I don’t think I’d be too bothered if random people got it wrong. [name]How[/name] often do you think it’ll come up?

Possible nicknames - maybe [name]Irie[/name] or Ris / Riss or Rissy? Or maybe you could take a nickname from her middle name - [name]Iris[/name] [name]Philippa[/name] called [name]Pip[/name] or [name]Pippa[/name] or [name]Pippy[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Allison[/name] called [name]Allie[/name] or [name]Lissie[/name] or [name]Sonny[/name]. Or maybe something like [name]Iris[/name] [name]June[/name] called [name]Irie[/name] [name]June[/name]? I think that there are possibilities. Personally, I see the fact that there isn’t an intuitive nickname (like [name]Alex[/name] from [name]Alexander[/name]) as being a bonus.

Anyway, I love [name]Iris[/name]. If I had a daughter this exact second that’s what she’d be named.

I love [name]Iris[/name]! It’s absolutely stunning and I would love to meet a little girl with this name. I don’t think it’s too hissy at all and I wouldn’t mind the occasional messing up of the possessive. I slightly prefer it as a MN (I’m seriously considering [name]Clara[/name] [name]Iris[/name] right now), but it’s stunning for a FN, too. I love @nono’s suggestion of [name]Irie[/name] as a nn! So cute.

Good luck!

I also adore [name]Iris[/name]. With the possessive, are you talking about the spelling or the prn? I am a huge grammar nerd and remember learning that both [name]Iris[/name]’ and [name]Iris[/name]'s in terms of spelling and grammar are technically correct! I think there are so many names ending with an s / z getting popular or that have always been popular ([name]Grace[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Max[/name], [name]Liz[/name], [name]James[/name], etc.) that it’s fine. I go by [name]Jess[/name] and in the rare instances I hear someone say something like, where’s [name]Jess[/name]'s coat, they always pronounce the vowel sound and the s. I think it’s all good : D.

All best!

I love this name. It’s one of the names I’m considering for our next child. I think it’s stunning.

[name]Iris[/name] is gorgeous, it’s my favorite girl name too. I literally cannot find anything wrong with this name at all! As for a nickname, do you really need one? I love this name so much I wouldn’t want to use a nickname, plus it’s so short it really doesn’t need one. I do like the suggestion of [name]Irie[/name] if your really looking for a nickname though. When I hear the name [name]Iris[/name] what first comes to mind are rainbows, which I love! I never thought as [name]Iris[/name] sounding hissy at all and it wouldn’t bother me if someone once in awhile said [name]Iris[/name]'s instead of [name]Iris[/name], it’s not worth not using a name I love.

I agree with AGX ^ [name]Iris[/name] doesnt need a nick name, its strong enough on its own. I can imagine an [name]Iris[/name] being very sensible and quiet, not to eccentric but very independent.

[name]Ive[/name] never thought of it being prissy because of the s ending, never crossed my mind untill i read it then and i still dont think it does.
