Looking for a name for baby #6 with middle name of [name]Elizabeth[/name]. If you were a product of Catholic school, a large Catholic family or grew up in a Catholic community, can you suggest some Irish Catholic or traditionally catholic names that come to mind?
My daughters are: [name]Grace[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Emma[/name] [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Mary[/name] [name]Clare[/name] & [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Marie[/name] (stillborn.) Super Irish names like [name]Siobhan[/name] and [name]Ciara[/name] are out for me bc I don’t feel that they blend well with my set.
I am but none of the girls in my school really had traditional Catholic/saints names And Liverpool is about as Irish as you can get without being in [name]Ireland[/name]
Hmm… Names that I think fit your theme:
[name]Erin[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] (and variants… [name]Margo[/name] etc)
[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Clare[/name] (like the county)
[name]Kerry[/name] (like the county)
[name]Theresa[/name]
[name]Kathleen[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is the first thing that comes to mind! I love [name]Kathleen[/name]. I love so many of the suggestions you have. I really like [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Jane[/name], and [name]Rose[/name].
I’m not a Catholic, but I am Irish! And I’m from Northern [name]Ireland[/name], where families often try to show their national identity through what they name their children. Some of my favourite names of some of my Catholic friends and neighbours are:
I think [name]Shannon[/name] isn’t super Irish-sounding, and it’s really nice. [name]Katie[/name] is very popular over here too, and as it is derived from [name]Kathleen[/name] it’s pretty Irish!
I’m from a large Catholic family, but no one really has Catholic names. It’s not really a law/rule that if you’re Catholic, you have to have a Catholic name, at least here in [name]America[/name]. I actually only knew a couple of friends who are Catholic that have religious names: [name]Mary[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], but these are also common names, so I don’t normally tag them as “religious” The rest do not.
I suggest looking at biblical names like: [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Jezebel[/name], [name]Deborah[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Rachel[/name] etc… (List of women in the Bible - Wikipedia)
or possibly saint names: Female / Women Saints A-Z - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online
or, since you have a [name]Grace[/name], maybe other “faith” words like: [name]Hope[/name], [name]Faith[/name], [name]Joy[/name], [name]Serenity[/name], etc…
I come from an Irish Catholic family. While my name isn’t very traditional in that mindset, the other female members in my family definitely bear more traditional monikers.
I’m super Irish Catholic, my parents are [name]Galway[/name] natives who had 16 kids lol. [name]One[/name] of the traditions of my family is to use ‘[name]Mary[/name]’ as a first name for girls although typically we all went by our ‘second name’. My mom is called [name]Mary[/name] [name]Ellen[/name]. Grandmothers are [name]Cathleen[/name] (step grandma), [name]Annemarie[/name] & [name]Rosemary[/name].
My sisters are called:
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Aileen[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Enya[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Brianna[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
I’m called [name]Johnna[/name] after my grandda [name]John[/name] and the first without a [name]Mary[/name] in front of my name but my middle name is [name]Rosemary[/name].
Liadan
[name]Kyra[/name]
[name]Aingeal[/name]
Some of my nieces are:
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Erin[/name], [name]Shannon[/name], [name]Tara[/name], [name]Colleen[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Mary[/name] [name]Anne[/name], [name]Mary[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
And [name]Adam[/name] and [name]Eve[/name] were saints, they have some material in the Catechism (CCC) that describes their being loosed from Purgatory. Good [name]Luck[/name]!
