Irish or Italian or Welsh?

When our daughter is born she will have Irish, Italian, Welsh and English blood and we definitely want to honour one of these nationalities when naming her.

So far all we have are:
Irish:
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] - although we worry about pronunciation
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]

Italian:
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Carina[/name_f]
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Siena[/name_f]

Welsh:
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]

Her middle name is going to be [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] (my maiden name), we might add another middle name but we aren’t sure.

I would love to know what you think! Any new suggestions are welcomed!

Thank you so much!

If it was up to me, I’d go with either [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Siena[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u], or [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Adriana[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u]. I also don’t mind [name_f]Siena[/name_f] [name_f]Anwen[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u], but I prefer the others :stuck_out_tongue:

I like the idea of [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], or [name_f]Adriana[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]

[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] are both lovely, but my favourite with [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is [name_f]Orla[/name_f]. They make brilliant sisters.

Since [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is so English sounding (my friend said recently ‘‘there’s an English [name_f]Molly[/name_f] wherever you go’’ recently and I swear she’s right, they’re everywhere) I think the likes of [name_f]Gianna[/name_f]/[name_f]Adriana[/name_f] might be a bit too Italian - I don’t know how [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is seen in the US but it’s quite homely in the UK due to it’s popularity, but elsewhere it might be seen as too Italian with [name_f]Molly[/name_f] also.

Some suggestions for [name_f]Molly[/name_f]‘s little sister, I’m not particularly knowledgeable about Italian names so these are just a few Irish and Welsh ideas…
IRISH
Muiren - MWEE-rin, she’s a mermaid in Irish mythology, it’s one of my favourites right now.
Sioda - SHEE-da, it’s actually masculine originally, but it’s used on females now too.
[name_f]Elva[/name_f] or [name_u]Alva[/name_u] - original spelling [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]
Siofra - SHEE-fra
[name_f]Ciara[/name_f] - KEE-rah
[name_f]Nuala[/name_f] - [name_f]Nula[/name_f]
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] or [name_f]Una[/name_f]
[name_f]Emer[/name_f] - I love this one too, it just doesn’t work in my accent, also spelled [name_f]Eimear[/name_f] in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f].
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - the Shakespearean name actually came from ‘’[name_f]Innogen[/name_f]’’ which is linked to the Irish word inighean meaning daughter so can be classed as technically Irish with English history.
[name_f]Ailish[/name_f] - originally spelled [name_f]Ailis[/name_f], there’s also [name_f]Eilis[/name_f]/[name_f]Eilish[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Honora[/name_f]

WELSH
[name_f]Cerys[/name_f] or [name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_u]Seren[/name_u] - Welsh word for ‘star’ which I think is beautiful, really trendy in the UK, said seh-[name_u]REN[/name_u] in Welsh
[name_f]Angharad[/name_f]
[name_f]Eira[/name_f] - means ‘snow’
[name_f]Ffion[/name_f] - [name_u]FEE[/name_u]-on
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Nia[/name_f]
[name_u]Tegan[/name_u]
[name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Betsan[/name_f] or [name_f]Bethan[/name_f]
[name_f]Alys[/name_f]
[name_f]Catrin[/name_f] - love this one
Eirys - Welsh word for [name_f]Iris[/name_f], said the same
[name_f]Eleri[/name_f] - from Welsh mythology
[name_f]Morwenna[/name_f]
Rhosyn - Welsh word for ‘rose’

I like [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] or [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].

[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] is one of my faves as well!!! but I have the same worry and b/c ppl would misspell it all the time.

I don’t know if this matters to you, but [name_f]Siena[/name_f] isn’t used as a given name in [name_f]Italy[/name_f].

@oliviasarah: [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is actually my name. This child that we are trying to name is our first!

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote is [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u]!

I love the Irish names and the Welsh. Not loving any of the Italian names on your list. [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (loo-CHEE-ah) is my fave.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. Good luck!

Ha silly me! I always read your signature and assumed it was your daughter! I really like it though.

I like [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] the best.

[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u]
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f] [name_f]Orla[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Siena[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u]
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u]
