Irrelevant Literary Namesake?

Our short list is shaping up with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] at the top. I love the name [name_f]Mae[/name_f] but can’t find a good middle name to go with it (suggestions welcome!) so we’ve placed it in the middle. We love the idea of a little girl nicknamed [name_u]Lou[/name_u], and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is our favorite of the [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-based names. BUT we now have a [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] problem-- neither of us has any connection to or feelings about this author. In fact, neither of us has even read [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women. I feel like it’s an obvious connection and we’ll forever be explaining that it’s just an unfortunate coincidence and that we didn’t actually intend to name our child after [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u]. Hubby thinks it will rarely come up, if ever. Thoughts?

It definitely was the first thing I thought, even with the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] spelling. Her name is pretty iconic.

Most people won’t ever know her middle name and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] is a pretty cool namesake even if you’re not familiar with her writing–she was an abolitionist and a Civil War nurse, IIRC. You might want to read [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women, though.

I also like-

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is lovely, and I’m with your husband - I don’t think it will come up too much, particularly if you live somewhere where middles aren’t used day to day. Also, even if by chance it does, it’s not really too difficult to explain.

Unless your surname is [name_u]Alcott[/name_u], I don’t think it’s a problem. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is an extremely common middle name anyway.
