Is a rhyming name a deal breaker?

A new forerunner has come to my husbands and I list, [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. (Still TTC but my husband has a “feeling” this month)

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is perfect, strong, elegant, vintage, but there’s one thing. It rhymes with our last name Gr33n, like the color. Most names like this I immediately drop off the list, like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], but we both keep gravitating toward [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband does not see a problem with it. His middle name rhymes, [name_m]Eugene[/name_m], and he has other family members with names that also rhyme. I just don’t want to cause unnecessary problems for her in the future.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is honestly usable with the last name? Other names we have on the list are [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Annora[/name_f]/Nora, and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].

I love rhyming names personally but I know it’s not popular on this site! I think it works if it’s clever and flows well for em! Ultimately if the name is the one it shouldn’t matter but also don’t name you’re daughter something as rhyme full as “[name_f]Julia[/name_f] Gulia” I think the name [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Gr33n is darling and if I met a baby that name I would have envy I think it’s not as matchy as it seems

I think it works. The length of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] makes it less noticable.

I don’t see an issue with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Gr33n! I agree with @princesspanda that full rhyming isn’t great (I wouldn’t use [name_u]Dean[/name_u] Gr33n, for example), but the length of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] balances it out. I like it!

I don’t think it’s that bad. It would kind be a bit of a namesake and I quite like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Gr33n!

In this case, I think it is very sweet!

I think it’s perfectly usable! I like it much better than [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and probably a bit better than [name_f]Annora[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]!

I actually really like it! I think it makes the name more memorable. Also, as a pp has said, the fact that it is so long makes it less noticeable. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is a gorgeous choice (and maybe also a subtle honor to [name_m]Eugene[/name_m])! (Also, I think [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] makes a perfect sister to the other names on your list!)

I 100% agree with this!

If [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] feels like the one, I think it works

I also agree that [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is so different in length and general vibe than simple, solid [name_u]Green[/name_u] that the rhyming really isn’t all that noticeable. I think it works (and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is lovely!)

Best of luck :four_leaf_clover:

I love the sound of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] with your surname.

I think it’s very classy!

I think it depends on the rhyming if it’s cheesy or not if the rhyming isn’t cheesy than I think it’s endearing. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Green[/name_u] is endearing such an elegant name lovely choice.

Good luck

Thank you all for the reassurance. I hoped, as mentioned by many, that the different length of syllables from [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] to the last name would make it usable.

If anyone has any middle name suggestions I’m all ears. Some honors we’d like to use but aren’t set in stone are [name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and [name_u]Louise[/name_u]. None of them sound great with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f].

I say both [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] with a long “I” sound so both names wouldn’t rhyme.

Normally I would say it is a deal breaker but [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Gr33n is “sing songy” in a way that actually works so I would say it’s usable.

I’d say it definitely works - and sounds quite lovely! the first name being much longer means it’s not too matchy matchy - I think it’s a lovely name!

Evangeline is definitely usable for you. In fact, it is absolutely darling! [name_u]Strong[/name_u] yet feminine. Vintage yet timeless. It sounds much better than [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] IMHO. Maybe because the ‘g’ sound in the middle rather than the ‘l’ in [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. But all that matters is that you love it!
