Is Adalie/Adelie a name?

I ‘made this up’ whilst pondering [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]/[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] variations and was wondering if i did actually make it up or if it’s already a name.

[name_f]Adelie[/name_f] is the name of a species of penguin

I know a little girl named [name_f]Adelie[/name_f] pronounced [name_m]Add[/name_m]-uh-lee

It is a name - I think it might be [name_m]German[/name_m] in origin.

@mnx9x- the [name_f]Adelie[/name_f] penguin was named after the wife of the [name_m]French[/name_m] explorer who discovered it. It’s a lovely name

One of my friends has a 2 year old named [name_f]Adelie[/name_f]! And she did indeed name her after the penguin species. I love it!

I don’t believe [name_f]Adelie[/name_f]/[name_f]Adalie[/name_f] has a long history as a name, but the sounds are familiar to names such as [name_f]Adele[/name_f]/[name_f]Ada[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Adalia[/name_f] it probably has been used before.
