Is Aerie usuable?

I’ve suddenly fallen in love with Aerie (pn. airy), a character name from my favourite PC game. I’m surprised, Aerie is really not my usual style, so I’d only ever use it as a nickname or middle name.

WDYT? Is Aerie usable? Would it work as a nickname for [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f] or [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f]? Can you suggest other full name options?
If I were to use Aerie as a middle, what would you suggest to use in front?

I generally love clunky, spunky, uncommon, unfrilly, mythological, fantasy or ancient names that are fairly simple to say/spell.

Thank you!

My first thought is that they make great bras! I can only think of the store.

Like where eagles hang out?

Anything can be a nickname for anything, but I think this is best left out of formal name territory.

Sorry I am not familiar with a store Aerie, is it an American thing? I am in [name_f]England[/name_f].

Yes. It is owned by American [name_u]Eagle[/name_u].

Also I thought an eagles nest was an eyrie! Is this another USA/UK thing?

Ok thanks for the info. This isn’t an issue for me personally as we don’t have that store here

I think it is useable and not really that odd at all. It is close to the name [name_u]Arie[/name_u], but prettier. I am familiar with the store, but since you don’t live in the us, it’s not really applicable.

[name_u]Damaris[/name_u] nn [name_m]Aries[/name_m] or Aerie

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] nn [name_u]Peri[/name_u] pronounced as Aerie with a p

I think as a full given name, Aerie could technically work, but it feel like [name_m]Aries[/name_m] works better.

[name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] /[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] could work to get Aerie.

I like [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] better than [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f], but either could give you the Aerie nn.

From all of the names you’ve mentioned, [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] is my fave, and it’s a great name to shorten, esp if you like Aerie.

I first thought of the store, Aerie, the bra and underwear store. But if there is no store called Aerie where you live, then I think it’s a lovely nickname! I see you like Eirwen, could Aerie be a nickname for that? Eirie?

I went through a phase where I bought all my bras from Aerie, so no I do not think the name is usable.
Aeries ships all over the world, and should your child travel to [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u], it will be a very common association made.

I think it should be fine as a nickname or middle name, as a first name: no.

This can be a nice nickname for [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariana[/name_f].

It works for [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] ([name_f]AIR[/name_f]-ee-el) but not [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f] (a-ree-an-wen), [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] (ah-ree-ad-nee), [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f] (arry-etty), [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] (keh-RID-wen) or Eirwen (AYER-wen).

It is an eyrie (eye-ree). As far as I know, they’re the same on both sides of the pond.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, much appreciated!

The link to an underwear store (although not found in the UK) is slightly putting me off, but I think it is still workable as a nickname. That way if the association became too strong it would be easy enough to change. Nicknames often change over time anyway.

@ashleyjuliette - I just [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] and [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] but I’m not sure about Aerie as a nickname for those. Thanks for the suggestions anyway!

@waverly123 - I hadn’t even thought of Aerie as a nickname for Eirwen! I love that idea, though much of the appeal of Aerie is the spelling, and I’m not sure that particular spelling works with Eirwen. Eirie isn’t so visually appealing to me unfortunately :frowning:

@dramagrl19 - [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] are not really my style, but thanks for your response regardless!

@renrose - I think I like Aerie best as a nickname for [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. I know it is a stretch with the other names but I don’t think it is so different that it couldn’t possibly be used.

I can’t help but think of the store.

Aerie is sweet but I prefer it when it spelled [name_f]Irie[/name_f]. Then it can be a nn for [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] nn Aerie is lovely though.

Some suggestions :
[name_f]Arianna[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Aramintha[/name_f], [name_m]Arrow[/name_m]… Anything with [name_u]Ara[/name_u]/[name_u]Ari[/name_u] in front.
I agree with others that Aerie is better as a nn or middle.

Some combo suggestions :
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] Aerie
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] Aerie
Or
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] / [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f] would be lovely.

I think this is where the clothing company sourced the name. Alternative spelling for any high-up hangout.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice!

I love all of your suggested combos bellerose! Thank you

I love the name Aerilyn (air-eh-lin)!
Other options are:
[name_f]Arianna[/name_f]
Arellia
[name_f]Ariella[/name_f]
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u]
[name_f]Arianna[/name_f]
Aereia
Aerinna
[name_f]Air[/name_f]
