oh agatha is one of my absolute favourite names !! i can, in a way, understand how she might get that reaction from someone who doesn’t think about names much - she’s still quite dated, and that “ag” sound can be harsh. but i find her so soft and lovely. i strongly doubt anyone would be so rude to an agatha in real life - the babycenter crowd come to the site for the purpose of being judgemental about names (in a way that basically nobody thinks in real life), and people tend be a lot meaner online than they would ever dare to be in real life.
[name_f]Ag[/name_f] is the chemical symbol for silver. Classy I don’t like the way the “th” feels when I say it, but that’s just personal preference. If you love it, do it!
To my opinion, [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] isn’t bad at all.
I think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is beautiful. It’s one of my favorite A names and overall I don’t like many A names so it’s definitely up there for me! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] as a nickname. I think it’s rare and beautiful.
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] and I was very worried about how people would receive it. I was trying to get as close to my daughter Isabelle’s name. The feedback in public I get is how much people love her name. She’s [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] but we call her [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] as her nickname. Go for the name you love!!
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is gorgeous. Look at what so many of these people name their children. Boring at best, tacky at least.
Nope, it is a great name! I am not having babies, but joined this site for pet naming. [name_f]My[/name_f] sweet chihuahua is [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. It suits her, and I call her Ags and [name_f]Aggie[/name_f], and [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is similar, IMO.
Im not personally a fan of the hard G sound. Its not very feminine to me in this name.
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] does have a couple negative character connotations (think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] from wandavision- although she had a pretty banging song, and [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] Trunchbull) BUT absolutely can work and won’t be a cringe inducing name. [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] is a very cute nickname and I know a little [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] down the road (she’s an [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] but same diff). If you like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] I don’t think people will judge you that much and it will probably be popular with the older ladies!
I met a younger [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] last summer and it was so refreshing I also think that the popular Bridgerton tv series really make it feel modern [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a heads up this post is from last year!
ETA: just realised this is an old post…
I love Agatha! We live in Central Europe where Agata is definitely a younger person’s name, so that’s given it new light for me. I also really love Agnes!
We just named our daughter Augusta, which is probably in the same camp as Agatha. When introducing her, we either get “Oh my gosh, I love that!”, with a huge smile (generally from people who are more name savvy) or “Augusta, that’s interesting”, accompanied by a polite smile (mostly from people who’ve named their own kids very popular or trendy names). So exactly as I expected in the real world But nobody is rude or anything when looking at an actual baby. It goes back to the advice of never taking criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from…If you wouldn’t use their style of names, don’t be bothered by their reaction to your style.
And I think names like Agatha, Agnes, and Augusta will be so cute on little girls, awesome on teens, and very sophisticated on young adults. Obviously, they’ll wear well on older women too
