I like the less common [name_m]Alec[/name_m] and Iskandar, but I was wondering about good ol’ [name_u]Alex[/name_u]. I know about 40 people named [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], and yet I still find it rather handsome.
What do you think? Boring or timeless? I’m not considering it, just curious.
I really like it. I know a fair few of varying ages, but it still seems like a handsome classic — not at all dull or dated. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of great nicknames, too.
I think it’s a very handsome name, but I also know (what feels like) dozens of people named [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. But if popularity isn’t an issue for you, it’s really quite a strong name. [name_m]Xander[/name_m] is a great nickname, and far less popular than [name_u]Alex[/name_u].
If popularity IS a problem, there are lots of other strong, regal names to think of. Some that come to my mind are [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (less common, though [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is gaining fast), [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] ([name_m]Abram[/name_m] is a great nn!), [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (less popular than [name_u]James[/name_u]), or [name_m]Nathanial[/name_m] (which I hear less of on young babies).
FORTY [name_u]ALEXes[/name_u]?! That’s mad, lol. I was prepared to say that I don’t find it boring at all, but I don’t know any Alexanders or [name_u]Alexes[/name_u], much less 40!
Then again, I’d use a less standard nn, like [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_m]Alexei[/name_m], Skandar, or [name_m]Xander[/name_m] (all of which I love!), or maybe even [name_m]Zane[/name_m]. But yes, I love [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I’m all for more of them, haha. I usually have him as a middle on my own list, but I think he’s ridiculously handsome! I’d be thrilled to have a [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] or Skandar one day. x
Not boring at all; timeless, definitely. It is very common, yes, but it’s a good, strong, classic, that feels a great deal spunkier than other traditional classics like [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]William[/name_m].
I do not like classic, common names but [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is my one exception. It’s handsome, strong, dignified. It’s just a well rounded name that can fit any type of boy. It’s probably guaranteed that there will be other [name_u]Alex[/name_u]’s in his class, but I still adore the name.
If I’m being honest, yes, it’s a bit dull and predictable. I’ve met so many of lots of different ages and I find it a bit meh as a first name. I’m not a massive fan of traditional boys names (with a couple of expectations) in general so I’m not sure if I’m a bad judge. It’s not a bad name at all, strong, full of nickname potential, versatile and timeless, I’m just not excited by it
So, unpopular opinion. But yes, I do find it boring.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a couple days ago I bought this new book, and when I found out the main character was called [name_u]Alex[/name_u] I was a bit disappointed. Like, oh, okay, another [name_u]Alex[/name_u] that will get lost in the sea of [name_u]Alex[/name_u]'s and Alexanders. [name_m]Just[/name_m] somewhat dull and forgettable in my opinion. I prefer [name_m]Alexei[/name_m], [name_m]Evander[/name_m], [name_m]Anders[/name_m] etc etc.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I wouldn’t mind at all having a baby boy named [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. It’s strong, classic, handsome, with thousand of nicknames.
I think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is classic! It would have been a strong contenders for my son’s name if we didn’t have too many close family and friends whose named began with [name_m]Al[/name_m]- or [name_f]El[/name_f]- already.
I don’t think it’s boring at all, it’s a timeless classic. I know a few people named [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], one of them goes by [name_u]Ali[/name_u]. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] has a lot of great nicknames.
Seems like it is a tired used up name for the past 25 years. I too like [name_m]Alec[/name_m], or [name_m]Zander[/name_m] much better! Maybe more suited to a middle.
I don’t find [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] boring at all! It’s a well-used, well-liked name for a reason. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] has been my top boys’ name for years now. It’s versatile enough for nicknames beyond [name_u]Alex[/name_u] to be possible; I personally favour Sani (pronounced SHAH-nee), the Hungarian diminutive.
I personally love it, I find it strong and just ridiculously gorgeous! I know a good 10 [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nn [name_u]Alex[/name_u]'s so I wouldn’t use [name_u]Alex[/name_u], my preferred nn is Ender (and also pretty much any on [name_u]Ash[/name_u]'s list)
I like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. It’s popularity would be an issue for me perao ally, but it’s still a great name. Theres a reason certain names are so popular.
