I really like the name [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and haven’t met anyone with the name so I was surprised to see that the name is in the top 20 here in the U.S. I don’t want my daughter to have a super popular name, but I really like the name.
Also wondering if people will think the name is a reference to GOT?
Kind of sad that I thought this Italian name was unique but just seems to be getting more and more popular. Thoughts?
Another name we’re considering is [name_f]Elle[/name_f] which I also really like.
I’m in the US and have also never met an [name_f]Aria[/name_f]! I guess it depends on where you live, so you could always check the popularity in your state!
Aria was one of my favorites before it got super popular too. I personally wouldn’t use name in the top 100 as a FN because my name has always been in the top 10 and it always bothered me to be one of three Abigails no matter where I went. I don’t watch GOT so I can’t speak to that reference. I prefer [name_f]Elle[/name_f] I think. If you love [name_f]Aria[/name_f] though I would use it!
Surprising! I’m not from the US, but I’ve always thought [name_f]Aria[/name_f] was relatively uncommon. I see it scores highly on popularity lists where I live, but have only ever come across one [name_f]Aria[/name_f]! And as a mother of a toddler, I am yet to meet a baby/toddler [name_f]Aria[/name_f]!
Wouldn’t worry about GOT as [name_f]Aria[/name_f] was already a well established name before the show
I’m a pediatric nurse, and have seen a HUGE number of little Arias. About two years ago was probably the peak, it seemed like every other newborn girl was a baby [name_f]Aria[/name_f].
When you look at the name [name_f]Aria[/name_f], its popularity really took off after around 2009, jumping from the 500s range to the top 100 in only a couple years. So it doesn’t surprise me that many posters here haven’t met one if they’re not hanging out around a lot of children born in the mid-2010s. The name data come from the SSA though so it’s very accurate lol.
I would recommend checking your state’s data for popularity more centralized to your area. I would also recommend asking your friends if they know anyone who has used the name. That might help give you a better idea of its popularity in your area and whether your daughter would be likely to share her name with others in her class. It is not a unique name though.
I get more Pretty [name_m]Little[/name_m] Liars vibes from [name_f]Aria[/name_f] spelled this way than Game of Thrones.
I really like the name [name_f]Aria[/name_f], it’s a gorgeous choice so there’s no wondering why it’s become so popular recently! I don’t think I can answer to whether or not the popularity should bother you though. [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is also a beautiful name, so you really can’t go wrong with either.
Although I think the popularity of [name_f]Aria[/name_f] emerged after GOT, I don’t think it will be connected with that since the character’s name is spelled differently - [name_u]Arya[/name_u] ([name_f]Maisie[/name_f] also pronounces it slightly differently to [name_f]Aria[/name_f] too).
I fell in love with the name after PLL, but probably wouldn’t use it anymore because I know of 2 [name_f]Aria[/name_f]’s (I’m in the UK where the name isn’t as popular as it is in the US)
I’ve heard a couple of Arias here & there. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t actually met any…just at the playground & stuff. At least I think. Maybe it’s just on the boards! Anyway, I don’t personally care for it because of how it is so associated w/GOT. That’s why it got so popular, which I personally think makes it less special.
[name_f]Elle[/name_f] is a beautiful simple choice though.
I don’t know of many Arias and I have met one four(ish) year old [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. Would you consider a different spelling; [name_u]Arya[/name_u] or something? And like other people said, definitely check the popularity in your state.
