Is Ashlyn too trendy?

I usually like -a ending names (favorites tend to be [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Anastasia[/name]/[name]Anya[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Alaina[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Delia[/name], Enza, [name]Gianna[/name], etc) which usually have a lot of history and are used internationally. But [name]Ashlyn[/name] is creeping up my list to being my favorite. I love the sound of it but is it too trendy and new? What do you think of the name?

The name [name]Ashling[/name] (pronounced [name]Ash[/name]-lyn) is a genuine Irish name that means “dream”…
It has an interesting history.

Yes. Obnoxiously so.

If you’re Irish, go with the traditional [name]Aislinn[/name].

The Irish [name]Aislinn[/name]/[name]Aisling[/name] is fine. [name]Ashlyn[/name] is a trendy phonetic spelling. Most names/words with a “lyn” tacked on the end of them are pretty trendy.

I think most people probably find [name]Ashlyn[/name] to close to [name]Ashley[/name], which lost it’s style and popularity a while ago, to name their child it. I think [name]Ashlyn[/name] is fine, though. It’s a big improvement on [name]Ashley[/name] for sure.

I agree with pps. [name]Aislinn[/name] is a lot better and less trendy than [name]Ashlyn[/name].

[name]Ashlyn[/name] seems to be the new [name]Ashely[/name], I don’t like it.

yes very much so

Agreed. I do see the appeal in [name]Ashlyn[/name], I think it sounds and looks very sweet, but I do agree that [name]Aislinn[/name] (or [name]Aisling[/name]) is much less trendy than [name]Ashlyn[/name]. [name]How[/name] do you feel about the [name]Aislinn[/name]/[name]Aisling[/name] spelling?

Maybe it’s just me, but [name]Ashlyn[/name] or [name]Ashlynn[/name] seems very dated. I knew a couple different [name]Ashlynn[/name]'s growing up (I’m 27 now,) and that name is definitely akin to [name]Jessica[/name] or [name]Crystal[/name] to me, in terms of feeling dated. If you are set on [name]Ashlyn[/name], my sincerest suggestion is to spell it phonetically if you’re in the US. The idea of the original Irish spelling is very nice in theory, but practically speaking - it will be a disaster. The vast majority of the US population will not only mispronounce, but absolutely butcher the pronunciation of [name]Aisling[/name]. Teachers, doctors, peers, etc. if this doesn’t bother you, then go for it. Like I said, the idea of using the original spelling is whimsical and idealistic. [name]Just[/name] not at all practical.

I agree with the previous posters - [name]Ashlyn[/name] does not seem current or sophisticated to me. I don’t think spelling it the Irish way would be problematic, even in [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name], but if you aren’t of Irish heritage that would be a bit odd. I prefer all of your other listed names to [name]Ashlyn[/name]. This all said, you need to name your child a name you [name]LOVE[/name], whether it is stylish or other Berries like it. You have to live with it, and [name]Ashlyn[/name] isn’t exactly setting up the child for a life of failure! Good luck!

I do feel [name]Ashlyn[/name] is too “trendy”, and maybe a little “made-up” sounding to really stand out as being beautiful. I am in my mid-twenties and knew 2 [name]Ashlyn[/name]'s in college as well…

Trend-o-rama.

Agree with all you said. (Despite the fact that [name]Ashlyn[/name] feels dated to me, I still know at least 4 or 5. So it is popular right now.)

OP - Have you heard of [name]Asha[/name]? It gives you the same beginning sound, but you still get the a ending. And it means hope or life in Hindi. Really like the meaning, too!

[name]Ashlyn[/name] is too trendy… but I love the name…

As an Irish speaker, I have to say I absolutely cringe at the spelling of [name]Ashlyn[/name]. Of course I understand that you might feel [name]Aisling[/name] would be too much of a stretch, but personally I think that if people can put up with some of the unnecessary ‘creative’ names you see so often now, they can definitely put up with the legitimate spelling of a genuine and traditional name with a gorgeous meaning. As a compromise you should think about [name]Ashling[/name], and you’d have the best of both worlds  best of luck

Yes, I think it is. An alternative I like would be [name]Aislinn[/name].

I don’t know if it’s trendy today but a decade or two ago it was. That’s why it feels very dated today.
