Is "Aslan" too associated with Narnia?

I love the name Aslan–it’s a Turkish name meaning “lion”, and I love it because it’s regal and strong yet gentle, and just sounds perfect for a fantasy prince character with humble beginnings. But I realize that when you hear “Aslan” a lot of people just think of the lion from Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], and I obviously don’t want my character to be seen as a ripoff.

Is the name [name_m]Aslan[/name_m] too associated with [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] for an original character? If it is, any other suggestions for a kind prince, preferably with a Near-Eastern name?

For me it’s definitely [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]. I am also reminded a little of the anime ‘Arslan Senki’ (the Heroic [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of Arslan) because of the spelling.
But that’s just a personal thing, I’m sure it’s still usable tbh, it’s just a name and not a made up name either, so it should be fine.

Personally, I think whilst it is a strong association, that perhaps another bearer is due to appear. Give it a go, especially if the name suits your character!

For the people who have seen [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] it’s very likely that the name [name_m]Aslan[/name_m] will be linked to that movie for some time. I haven’t seen the movie so I’m giving you an outside opinion - it’s a beautiful name, on my top list for boys and if it fits your character than you should definitely go for it. Never question twice your voice within

Like @Chay said, another bearer is due to appear and it could just be your character. :white_heart:

I think for a non-Turkish person it would be very associated with Narnia; I wouldn’t use it as a first name for that reason because of that, however, I think it’s a lovely name and the association isn’t negative so definitely usable if you don’t mind people linking the characters.

I can’t comment about the association with [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] because I’ve never read it but as soon as I saw the title before I even read your post in my head I was thinking “isn’t that a common name in Turkey” maybe because I’ve watched too many turkish films/soap opera type series despite not coming from Turkey since they air alot where I used to live so I’ve become familiar with the turkish naming style. However, based on previous experiences where a book introduces a name to me and it becomes associated with that name the non-turkish audience can probably relate to [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]
