Is August destined for Auggie?

I love August but can’t stand the nickname Auggie. I don’t mind Gus but really prefer just August. Do you think August is destined to become an Auggie?

Our other top boy contender is Wesley, who also seems destined to become Wes, but I’m ok with that nickname.

Which do you like best with big sisters Georgia and Eloise? Middle names are Arthur John.

Any other boy suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I think someone could be named [name_u]August[/name_u] without going by [name_m]Auggie[/name_m]. If you raise him as [name_u]August[/name_u], he’ll see that as his name. Though, when he gets older, he might decide to go by a nickname.
[name_u]Wesley[/name_u] is probably the safer option here, since you are okay with [name_m]Wes[/name_m].
[name_u]Wesley[/name_u] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]John[/name_u] is a really great sounding combo.

I think [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] would be largely avoidable, but it’s true that he may choose to use the nickname when he’s older. If that would bother you, then it’s probably best to stick with [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] (which is a lovely choice with older sisters’ names)!

[name_m]Auggie[/name_m] would probably be avoidable, given, if people do shorten it, I generally hear it shortened to [name_u]Gus[/name_u] as often as [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] nowadays.

I think it depends on several factors. If you always refer to him as [name_u]August[/name_u], in theory I’d assume he’d prefer [name_u]August[/name_u] as that’s what he’s used to. However, if he decides to go by [name_m]Auggie[/name_m], it’s a completely different scenario.

If nicknames are a big part of names for you, I’d probably go with [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], since the full combo of [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]John[/name_u] sounds nicer to me than [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]John[/name_u]. Plus I think it flows well with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] & [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], as I get the same… “feel” from it.
There’s also the benefit of it having the immediate nickname of [name_m]Wes[/name_m], which, personally I feel is more on theme with your daughters’ names than [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] or [name_u]Gus[/name_u].

Thanks! It feels avoidable to me too, though the one friend I ran it by said she thought it was a sure thing he’d be [name_m]Auggie[/name_m].

I actually think [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] is more avoidable than [name_m]Wes[/name_m], which feels like it would really stick for some reason and that I might as well just be naming him Wes…

Augie/Auggie has never felt particularly natural to me - nor has [name_u]Gus[/name_u] tbh. If I met an [name_u]August[/name_u], I would probably just stick to [name_u]August[/name_u].

Still, none of that guarantees you against [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] from other people and an [name_u]August[/name_u] might decide he likes [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] himself (and if he does, you might come round to it :person_shrugging: )

I like [name_u]August[/name_u] best with your girls  (and in general)

Based on [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] (plus [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and Georgia), I’ll throw in the suggestions of:

[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Ralph[/name_m]
[name_u]Franklin[/name_u]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u]
[name_u]Beckett[/name_u]
[name_u]Leon[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]

I don’t really think any name is truly “destined” to turn into a specific nickname. That being said, if you truly hate a nickname and have another option you prefer, I would go with that. [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] is a lovely name (and I think works better with your middle name picks) and fits well with your sibset.
