Is Aurora a Princess Name?

Hubby works with a guy whose first daughter was 4 or 5 when their second came along. To get her involved with the pregnancy they let her pick her new baby sister’s name. She chose Ariel because Little Mermaid was her favorite movie at the time. When her brother was born a year or so later, they let her pick again. She was still into Little Mermaid so she picked Sebastian. They had a little oops a few year later. All the kids were into Toy Story at the time and the baby boy was named Woody. I don’t know that kids would associate Aurora with Sleeping Beauty, but this guy complains all the time because his kids’ classmates all knew which movies they were named for and were teased quite a bit for it. He blames his kids for picking the names, though, and doesn’t think it’s his or his wife’s fault.

Wow, that is some irresponsible parenting. They could have at least given poor [name]Woody[/name] the respectable full name [name]Woodrow[/name]. [name]Ariel[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] are perfectly fine names on their own, but in the same sibset? I love just about everything Disney but that’s just too much.

Anyway, back to the original poster. I think [name]Aurora[/name] is a beautiful name (love the nickname [name]Rory[/name]) and while I do think of Sleeping Beauty, it’s not a bad or overwhelming association. It’s not like say, [name]Cinderella[/name] (Sidenote, I have actually seen this name in birth announcements. It makes me shudder. I mean, [name]Cinderella[/name]'s real name wasn’t even [name]Cinderella[/name]. It was [name]Ella[/name], for pity’s sake!). I’m sure you’ll get the occasional Sleeping Beauty comment, but I don’t think it makes the name any less usable.
