Is Avery too popular?

We never find out the gender ahead of time, my favorite thing! The only girl name we agreed on was Avery in our last pregnancy, plus found an Aver way back in family names, an added bonus. Plus, I like the possible nn with Avery. I’ve kept it on my short list, but am now seeing how it is one of the most popular unisex names across the US. Our other names are not on the popular side, so getting afraid we will have to nix Avery. Thoughts?

It is number 19 so it is fairly popular but if you love it, keep it on your list

I think it depends on the other names on your list for potential future siblings!
Something like Avery and Louisa works, even though Avery is top 20 and Louisa is only top 800.
But something more like Avery and Aurelia, Theodora, Veda, Ariadne, Oona, etc., so basically something a lot more unexpected might make Avery stand out.

i clicked the wrong one on accident i am so sorry! i definitely think avery is still usable and is a great name

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

It just depends on how much popularity bothers you. At least in my neck of the woods (St. [name_m]Louis[/name_m], MO), [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is super popular. Basically every other girl is [name_u]Avery[/name_u]. The other half are Evelyn/Evie…which is kind of similar. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is really popular too, but honestly not as much. And I much prefer [name_f]Ava[/name_f] if you’re into that. It has a feminine glamorous vibe, but still simple & spunky. Still have the nn Avey if you like that, & it could honor Aver. And if you really want a bigger stretch idea, maybe [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]? I love [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]!

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

If we’re going by the US statistics, it seems to have already peaked and stopped at #12 in 2013. Keep in mind that popular names aren’t as used as they once were. I agree with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] that it really depends on the less popular name it’s paired with. A lot of vintage comeback names, especially shorter ones, wouldn’t feel off. [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], or [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] are perfectly manageable. However, [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], or [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] might be more jarring.

I might be kinda bias because my favourite cousin was names [name_u]Avery[/name_u] but I still think it is totally usable.

If you are not finding out the gender then you could totally use [name_u]Avery[/name_u] as either a boy or a girls names

i don’t know anyone with the name avery but in my view it feels like a name very attached to recent years ? compared to names of a similar popularity i see avery as a ‘fast fashion’ name if that makes sense  so now it might be booming yet in a few years it is likely to go back down the charts as the majority lose interest, which can either a good or bad thing depending how you see it haha

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] is more popular than [name_u]Avery[/name_u] where we live, but I would hate for her to go to school and have a whole bunch of other Avery’s in her class! The only Avery’s I really know of are a teenager and a college aged, but I may just be that far out of the loop!

I think that’s a good thing! We would want the super popular, obvious names. Our boys don’t have names like that!
