Alright, need some advice berries! DH and I are considering [name_f]Aya[/name_f] as a first name. It means hawk in Hebrew. I like that its phonetic and simple to pronounce. And the meaning is special – she would be named after my grandmother, whose name (Fenia) also means bird.
The middle names we’re considering are [name_u]Simone[/name_u] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
I just hope people don’t think the name is made up or too exotic or that we dropped the ‘M’ off [name_f]Maya[/name_f]…
What do you think of when you hear the name [name_f]Aya[/name_f]? Should we go with it or keep looking?
I think [name_f]Aya[/name_f] is a really pretty name.
It does seem very exotic to me - I have never met an [name_f]Aya[/name_f] who wasn’t Japanese and I can’t really picture it on a Caucasian girl.
The other issue may be that it sounds very like [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is much more popular - this will probably mean that [name_f]Aya[/name_f] will get misheard as [name_f]Maya[/name_f] a lot.
I love [name_f]Aya[/name_f]! I have a friend that has a daughter named [name_f]Aya[/name_f]! (she’s not Japanese or Hebrew btw). It’s short and sweet. To me it shares a lot of the qualities of other names, like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but not the popularity.
