According to the charts, [name]Belle[/name] doesn’t crack the top 1,000, but with the extreme popularity of [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Isabelle[/name] (and its variant spellings), how many girls actually go by [name]Belle[/name]? It’s one of the few names my husband and I agree on for a future baby girl, but I’m afraid it might be more popular than the statistics let on.
We’ve already got a baby boy with a name that ranks in the 500s, and while rankings aren’t everything, it might be strange to have one child with a super-common name and another with a relatively rare name. Thanks in advance for your input!
I don’t know anyone who goes by [name]Belle[/name]. I know one [name]Isabella[/name], and she goes by [name]Izzy[/name]/Izza (SOMETIMES [name]Isabella[/name]) almost exclusively. I’ve never heard her parents/grandparents/family call her [name]Bella[/name]/[name]Belle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]/etc.
My favorite girls’ name is [name]Isabelle[/name], and I’m sure, at one point, she would go by [name]Belle[/name]. It’s actually one of my favorite nns for it right now, so she likely will go by [name]Belle[/name] if I do have an [name]Isabelle[/name], haha. I am not sure how you would track how many girls go by the nn [name]Belle[/name], though, especially with all the popular [name]Belle[/name] names–[name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Isabelle[/name]/a, [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name], etc…
Sorry if this isn’t very helpful. I don’t think you could really go wrong with [name]Belle[/name], though–I think [name]Bella[/name] is a lot more popular.
I know one little [name]Belle[/name], just [name]Belle[/name]. Her parents get really mad if anyone calls her [name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Isabelle[/name] because that is not her name. I don’t know any other children who go just by [name]Belle[/name] or are named [name]Belle[/name].
Of course it’s more popular than it seems! I’ve never met a [name]Belle[/name] named just [name]Belle[/name], but I can’t throw a ball without hitting an [name]Isabella[/name]. The vast majority of Isabellas I know are at least occasionally called [name]Belle[/name]/[name]Bella[/name], and [name]Bella[/name] ranks #48 on the list, not to mention all the girls with [name]El[/name]- and -ella names. [name]Belle[/name] is a great name, but certainly not uncommon. If unique is what you’re going for, try a rarer long form- [name]Arabelle[/name] or [name]Mirabelle[/name], for example.
I don’t know any [name]Belle[/name]'s but since -bella/-belle names are red hot now, I think it’s more popular than it seems. Still, it’s a lovely name.
I know an adult [name]Isabelle[/name] who goes by [name]Isabelle[/name], and a little girl [name]Bella[/name] (just [name]Bella[/name]) who goes by [name]Bella[/name]. That’s it on my end, and I know lots of kids. Also know a little girl with [name]Isabelle[/name] as the middle…but that’s the middle!
I don’t know anyone named [name]Belle[/name] and to be honest, I don’t know anyone named [name]Isabelle[/name] or [name]Isabella[/name] either. I work with children too, so you’d think I’d have run into at least one, but I guess it’s just not that popular in my area.
This kind of like a [name]Jen[/name]/[name]Jenny[/name]/[name]Jennifer[/name]/[name]Jenna[/name]/[name]Jennie[/name]/ect question would’ve been in the 80’s & early 90’s. There are less [name]Jenna[/name]'s and [name]Jennie[/name]'s, but it still has that same level of popularity and they are pretty much all the same name. If you like a popular name I think you just have to be ok with the fact that there will be other kids with the same or almost the same name.
Thanks for all the input, everyone! I know that [name]Isabelle[/name] and its sister-names are as popular as [name]Jennifer[/name] once was, but the nicknames for [name]Jennifer[/name] ([name]Jen[/name], [name]Jenny[/name]) seem more obvious to me. I was just wondering if most Isabelles and Isabellas generally went by their full names or by [name]Izzy[/name] or [name]Issa[/name], rather than [name]Belle[/name]. Seems like it’s a mix!
I’ve only ever met one little girl whose name was actually [name]Belle[/name], and she was the cutest and sweetest thing in the world [name]Belle[/name] is actually one of my favorite names ever, I really like it as a nickname for [name]Annabelle[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name]. [name]Hope[/name] that I could help you
