Is Cain usable?

I’m just curious that’s all…And is there any other names that sound like it if its not usable?

I’d use [name_m]Cain[/name_m], he’s so handsome. Others like him: [name_u]Cade[/name_u], [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_m]Colt[/name_m], [name_m]Cian[/name_m] (or Kian).

Yes!! Very nice name!

I wouldn’t personally use it, but i do love it for little boys!

If [name_m]Abel[/name_m] is usable why not [name_m]Cain[/name_m]?

I don’t think so. It would be hard to strap a name so tied to “evil” on a little boy forever.

Spelled differently- maybe. But lots of other names accomplish the same sound as pp mentioned. Cade, Dane, etc

I’ve known several Cains/Kanes. Not a personal favourite but not unusable.

[name_m]Zayne[/name_m], [name_m]Caiden[/name_m], [name_m]Kian[/name_m], Rain/Reign, [name_u]Lane[/name_u], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_u]Carson[/name_u], [name_m]Cason[/name_m], [name_m]Jake[/name_m] and [name_u]Van[/name_u] came to mind

I think the answer to that depends on your religious beliefs. I would avoid using it if you are a [name_u]Christian[/name_u], especially if you do attend church regularly. This is because [name_m]Cain[/name_m] is not the best person in the Bible to be named after. (He murdered his brother Abel.)

[name_m]Even[/name_m] if you are not [name_u]Christian[/name_u], it would worth considering whether this association is something you’re truly okay with.

I have this problem with [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] - I love the name, but I wouldn’t want that association for my daughter.

What about:
[name_u]Cade[/name_u]
[name_u]Dane[/name_u]
[name_u]Shane[/name_u]
[name_u]Lane[/name_u]
[name_u]Blaine[/name_u]
[name_u]Chase[/name_u]
[name_u]Wade[/name_u]
[name_m]Zane[/name_m]

Because Cain was the evil one :grimacing:

That’s my first and immediate association (as a non-religious person) but I guess if it doesn’t bother you, it’s fine

As an observant Jew, [name_m]Cain[/name_m] is a name that is not useable. Not only did [name_m]Cain[/name_m] kill his brother, but he also (in Jewish mythology) went on to become the father of giants and other mythological monsters. (In [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m], [name_m]Cain[/name_m] is the father and grandfather of Grendel’s mother and Grendel.)

Cane/Kane is a surname, so if surnames are your thing, the name is useable that way.

But then I also feel this way about names such as [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f], [name_m]Ahab[/name_m], etc.

I grew up knowing a [name_m]Cain[/name_m] (I live in the Bible belt) and he, as far as I know, never got any teasing because of his name. I think it’s usable.

Cain’s totally usable!

some other names like it are:

Kade/Cade
Colt/Kolt

I don’t really think [name_m]Cain[/name_m] is useable.

I’m not religious and living in the UK (so not a religious country at all!) and it’s usable to me.

I personally wouldn’t use it spelled that way. It’s on the same level for me as [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m].

Sorry, but definitely not. The world’s first murderer in two of the world’s largest, most enduring religious groups!

Yea no wouldn’t do it, but even if your not religious it’s pretty well known that he’s considered the first murderer. [name_m]Even[/name_m] a name like [name_m]Kane[/name_m] would be a no for me. There’s the alternative [name_m]Kanan[/name_m] and Kannan though which I love and has a completely different origin, and [name_m]Canaan[/name_m], another biblical man and a city in the Bible as well

Not for me! Maybe for others.

Personally I wouldn’t use it. I’m not religious but can’t get over the association. How about [name_m]Kean[/name_m], [name_m]Cian[/name_m], or [name_u]Killian[/name_u]?

While it may not be entirely unusable,
I would definitely avoid it.

I think it is useable, but I really prefer [name_m]Kane[/name_m] as it has the same strength without the associations
