Is Charlotte still useable?

I know it is wildly popular at the moment. I said I would never use a top 50 name. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is stuck on [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] though. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] NC is where we met. Though we don’t live there now and it isn’t my favorite city, lol.

If it’s your favourite name, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t use it! I understand being concerned about popularity, but I’d personally regret not using my favourite name just because of popularity. I don’t think most people connect [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with a city, if that’s a concern of yours, & your connection with it is sweet even if it’s not your favourite city.

I’m in the same boat!! We actually HAVE a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and now want an [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and I feel the same way about [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. Our [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is 5 and has one [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and 2 Charlottes in her class. And every so often we hear one at a park. It’s not horrible. Worst part is when you tell people and they just say “oh that’s a popular one.”

If you love it and find the meaning important, you should use it.

Using it as a middle name is another option if you are bothered by the popularity, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] isn’t so popular as a middle name.

Charlotte, like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], will always be usable. It’s a matter of if you and the child don’t mind her being [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Last Initial in every class.

Does he like [name_u]Carling[/name_u], [name_f]Clarimond[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotta[/name_f], Chalcedony, [name_f]Caledonia[/name_f], [name_f]Caitriona[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f], [name_f]Corisande[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Claret[/name_f], [name_f]Chiara[/name_f], [name_f]Christiane[/name_f], or any other C names?

I am a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] myself. Honestly it’s so popular that the name is starting to lose its magic (in my opinion) I can see it being the next [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. Where is just stays in the top 10 for ages.

How about [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] or [name_f]Clarice[/name_f]

If popularity will bother you, then [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is not the right name.

It doesn’t seem like it’s your favourite so I wouldn’t use it, or, I’d save it for a middle name

I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! Of course it’s usable! Most popular names today are still less popular (by number of births) than they were years ago, probably thanks to name berry . [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t let popularity alone stop you from using a name you love.

@Laalaaland - one [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and 2 Charlottes is tough! That would bother me, but it a such a great name I can understand why it was discovered and shot up the charts.

I agree. I do really like my name it’s just a shame that it’s peaked. How about [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] from [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

I agree with literally everything @futuremama said. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is such a lovely choice, even if it’s popular, and I really don’t think that should stop you from using it if it’s the name you love most!

I would still use it! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let the popularity of a name stop use from using it!

I think it’s beautiful! It’s not super popular like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. So I think it’s still usable

I did a deep dive on [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for you

In 2019:
5 Charlottes were born for every 7 Olivias (#1).
12 Charlottes were born for every 5 Violets (#36).
8 Charlottes were born for every 1 [name_u]June[/name_u] (#201).
42 Charlottes were born for every 1 [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (#874).

Looking at percent of total births, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f](#6, 2019) would have ranked…
#8 in 2009, between [name_u]Madison[/name_u] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
#12 in 1999, between [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] and [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
#21 in 1989, between [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] and [name_u]Courtney[/name_u]

Edit: This is in the US data!
Edit: Sylvie actually is ranked! Fixing that…

Seems like your husband really loves it but you’re not that thrilled. I suggest using the name you both love and put [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] in the middle spot, where it’s not so popular.

@hellobanjo - thanks for this! [name_m]Just[/name_m] so hard to believe it is this popular but I know it is
