Is DEMPSEY masculine? Let me be "ford"

hi there, I am in love with the name [name]Dempsey[/name] for a baby girl but my partner HATES it and thinks its masculine. (probably because of [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Dempsey[/name])

I am starting to consider [name]Dempsey[/name] for a boy… Not sure what sex the baby is yet — but as far as masculinity can I get some feedback about this one?

Also suggestions for boys names that sound like sirnames are greatly appreciated?
I quite like those that end in “ford” like [name]Oxford[/name], Penford etc. All unique suggestions appreciated

It sounds masculine to me because… it’s a surname. Also there’s [name]Clint[/name] [name]Dempsey[/name] (soccer player) and a local DJ named Demp

I like just [name]Ford[/name], also
Ashford
[name]Clifford[/name]
[name]Crawford[/name]

I think [name]Dempsey[/name] could go either way equally. I also like [name]Dorsey[/name].
Some “ford” names for boys…

[name]Bradford[/name]
[name]Wilford[/name]
[name]Sanford[/name]
[name]Redford[/name]
[name]Stafford[/name]
[name]Rutherford[/name]
[name]Stanford[/name]
Guildford
[name]Milford[/name]
Lindford
[name]Rexford[/name]
Rockford
[name]Whitford[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] this helps!

[name]Dempsey[/name] is a surname and not one that rings either masculine or feminine.

I like surnames as first names. My favorite boy’s name is my grandmother’s maiden name. Personally, I think the best surname names are the ones that come from your family tree. When you select a surname at random you’re just being trendy, but perhaps that’s what you like…

I know a baby [name]Ford[/name] born just recently. I also think [name]Clifford[/name] is deserving of a revival.

masculine all the way

Sorry, [name]Dempsey[/name] makes me think first of the actor [name]Patrick[/name] and then of dumpy

It’s masculine and too-surnamey for my taste.

What if she gets teased and called dumpsy or dumbsy

Thanks for all your suggestions with the ford names. wow there are so many aren’t there. I don’t think I could go with just [name]Ford[/name] because of the car…
I can appreciate the view of [name]Dempsey[/name] maybe getting teased with “dopey” or “dumpsey” but I just think it has the prettiest ring to it when I block that one thought out… definitely starting to see two sides to the masculine/feminine debate though

I really dislike [name]Dempsey[/name] as a first name, but definitely think it is masculine. If you like [name]Ford[/name], just use that.

i think [name]Dempsey[/name] is VERY masculine. just because it ends in a long e sound doesn’t make it feminine.

I think [name]Dempsey[/name] is masculine…but would make for a nice first name on a boy. In regard to your interest in the name [name]Ford[/name]…I would just use that. Otherwise the kid is going to sound like a university or a law firm…
