Is Esther becoming popular?

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] is one of my favorite names but it seems to be getting more popular especially according to the social security graphs. To those in the US: is [name_f]Esther[/name_f] becoming too popular? What are your predictions for the next few years? I’d hate to not use the name, but I really don’t want to give my kid a popular name

I wouldn’t say its getting popular

I definitely see it getting in the top 100 eventually. It’s a short classic like other popular names and it starts with the popular E initial ([name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] an [name_u]Emery[/name_u] are all in the top 100)
It’s risen 100 spots since 2010, so 100 spots in 10 years. It’s number 156 most popular right now, so going by the same logic I wouldn’t be surprised if it rose to the top 100 in about five years. Though I don’t see it entering the top 50, maybe not even the top 70, because it’s less feminine/spunky than other popular names and more retro than vintage. Personally I wouldn’t use a name in the top 100, but you seem to love it a lot so it’s up to you to decide if that’s something that bothers you enough not to use it.
There’s the similar [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] if you’re looking for something different. Or one of [name_f]Esther[/name_f]'s foreign variations like Eister or just Essi.

Oh dear lord, I hope not.

I had my [name_f]Esther[/name_f] at the end of 2018 and the pediatrician at the hospital said that she hardly every sees Esthers. It was at a decently big hospital near two major cities so its popularity/unpopularity might be a regional thing.

[name_f]Esther[/name_f] seems like a name that would be very popular only in areas with large Jewish populations. I live in an area with a large conservative [name_m]Christian[/name_m] population where Biblical names abound. I have yet to encounter an [name_f]Esther[/name_f].

I knew two Esthers, both would be in their 30s now. If it is growing in popularity, I haven’t noticed it in my area.
