I’m 95% sure we’re naming our little girl [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this name and always have. It’s alsk one of the few names both my husband and i absolutely love.
I initially was going to spell it [name_f]Everleigh[/name_f] because I find it to be more feminine, but most NB’s seem to prefer the classic spelling. So we likely will go with ‘[name_u]Everly[/name_u]’
However, my question is, do you think this name is SO trendy that it will turn into the massive popularity of ‘[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]’ and ‘[name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]’ or ‘[name_f]Brittany[/name_f]?’
For some reason, I don’t see it growing into THAT level of popularity. But if you think it will, please explain why. I’m looking for different viewpoints because I just want the best for my little girl
It sounds to me like you have found the perfect name for your daughter. Because it has recently risen in use and incorporates a number of sounds that are currently in style, it is possible that [name_u]Everly[/name_u] will come to be one of the more popular names of this era, but I don’t see that as a reason not to choose a name you love. Names become popular because they speak to parents’ hearts and reflect the spirit of the time in which the child is born. To me, those are excellent reasons to use a name.
I don’t think [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is too trendy; it’s gorgeous. I think the similarity to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] keeps it from feeling too trendy.
I would highly consider this name if my hub wasn’t so in love with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]!
In a word, yeah. Kind of. I’ve noticed SUCH an increase in girls by this name, both in real life and online. However, if it is the name, then so it is the fact that her name brings you so much joy means more than any popularity chart.
I don’t think names will ever become as popular again as the ones you mentioned. People get so creative with names these days that if you look at the actual number of children given even Top 10 names, it’s far lower than in years past. If you both love it, don’t let popularity dissuade you.
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] is a gorgeous name! Is it trendy, sure. But I don’t think it will be a “fad” name (a la [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], etc). I can see [name_u]Everly[/name_u] maybe slowly becoming the next [name_f]Emily[/name_f]–not really dated, but a definite strong connection with a certain time period. If you love it, then I firmly believe that is what matters most. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is a beautiful, feminine name that’ll age very well!
Whether trendiness is a bad thing and how trendy is “too” trendy is your call. I think you should use the name if you both love it.
Names simply don’t reach the level of popularity that [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] reached. Those names, at their peak, were given to 3.94%, 1.90%, and 2.92% of girls born. The most common girls names are now only given to 1% of girls born.
But I do think [name_u]Everly[/name_u] has potential to be a lot like [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], which peaked at 0.95% of girls born. I think it could be a #1 name. Definitely a Top 5 name because so many people love it. It fits in with various things that people love right now: names that start with E, names that end with the -lee sound, word names, “liquid names” I think? is how [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Wattenberg describes the common flow and consonant to vowel ratio/structure people are loving. Or if you just look empirically at the data, [name_u]Everly[/name_u] has SO MUCH momentum. It is actually quite comparable to [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], which was given to 32 girls in 1961 to 4001 girls in 1970. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] was given to 46 girls in 2008 and 3505 girls in 2017.
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] is beautiful! I know it’s been rising in popularity, but I’ve never actually met anyone with the name. I’ve seen online people use the name, but not in real life.
I completely agree with a pp that it’s like the next [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. I dont think it will be a dated name at all.
I also agree that it sounds like the perfect name for you, and you should definitely use it. I dont think you should let potential popularity ruin it for you! If it’s the name you both love, then it’s the right name to use.
(p.s. I 110% prefer [name_u]Everly[/name_u] to [name_f]Everleigh[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Everleigh[/name_f] is very trendy compared to [name_u]Everly[/name_u]!)
Not sure why some are in denial about the trendiness of [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. It’s an androgynous surname ending in the “lee” sound whose use as a given name is almost completely confined to the past decade. And it’s rising rapidly. Of course it’s going to date. However, as others have said, that isn’t a reason to cross it off the list. Use it if it’s “the” name.
I guess it is a personal choice! In my opinion, yes it is, and whilst I think it is beautiful I wouldn’t use it for this exact reason. However, it is an adorable name.
