Hello fellow Berries! My SO and I have a pretty big dilemma on our hands. We have fallen in love with the name MaxGotham. Yes, as in Gotham City from Batman. Is this too “odd” for a middle name? We’ve heard from Grandparents that it’s “completely outrageous”, but we’ve also heard from our friends that it’s a great, unique option. We’d love and appreciate opinions, suggestions, and comments! Thank you in advance
I think as a middle name it is fine. Middle names are not often called out so it could be a cool mn for little [name]Max[/name]! Good luck!
Personally, I find using Gotham a bit silly. There are plenty of great names from comics (from Batman in particular I like [name]Grayson[/name] and [name]Talia[/name]) which are a lot more subtle. Using Gotham, even in the middle, is a bit much. It’s like giving your kid the middle name Metropolis. And what if your kid turns out not to be a Batman fan? (Because let’s face it, kids don’t always share their parents interests) They might resent having a middle name that’s so obviously linked to a comic book franchise.
I honestly think it’s a bit much, it’s like using Hogwarts as a middle if you are a [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] fan. There are a lot more subtle names you can use, like [name]Bruce[/name] or [name]Wayne[/name].
I think it sounds fine for a middle, but Gotham City has often been portrayed in a negative light–full of crime and corruption. Not the best image. But I think it’s safe for a middle name.
It’s a little too strange for me, out of curiosity are you from NYC?
As a middle name almost anything is fine. I think that Gotham would be fine.
People who aren’t familiar with Gotham city may pronounce it Got-ham.
I personally wouldn’t name my son that, but it’s fine I guess.
Best of luck!
I automatically think Batman. I don’t really like it, I have to agree with your grandparents! Sorry!
Gotham’s a really negative association. Why not Batman? If we’re operating under the assumption that “anything goes” just because it’s the middle name, I vote for [name]Max[/name] Batman.
Or what about [name]Max[/name] Batman [name]Bruce[/name] [name]Wayne[/name] [name]Dick[/name] [name]Grayson[/name] Godzilla Sauron [Last Name]. [name]Even[/name] better.
No, but seriously. [name]Don[/name]'t do it.
[name]Don[/name]'t care for it but most people don’t use their middles
What about [name]Grantham[/name]?
I agree with @catloverd @pansy and @doveh
The child will likely hate it, and the whole Batman franchise.
[name]Skip[/name] it.
Use it on a pet or character, not your child.
No, I’m not from NYC but I’ve spent time studying there.

I have to agree with others that say skip it… it’s a name for a pet, not a kid, even as a middle name. Gotham isn’t a nice place anyways, so why give it as a name? There are other Batman-related names you could use.
I’m kind of the odd one here… I actually think it sounds really cool and would be a fun way for me personally to honor my dad who is a Batman freak. It isn’t in the cards for me because we already have a middle name picked for a boy. But I think you should use it if you love it.
I happen to think Gotham is awesome! [name]Love[/name] love [name]Max[/name] Gotham. I don’t see it as any different than using any other place name ([name]London[/name], [name]Savannah[/name] [name]Bristol[/name], [name]Brooklyn[/name], etc.) Except that it’s so much cooler! I’m a pretty big Batman fan so that might make me a bit biased, though. Honestly, I don’t understand how people on this site can be so accepting of “unique” and “cool” names (that really aren’t unique at all when they’re repeated by like everyone on the stinking site) and yet when it comes to people who actually have a cool idea for a name (seriously how is using a fictional place name any different than using the name of an actual place? Whatever.) everyone acts like you’re gonna name your kid Flapjack Pina Colada.
Sorry, I know this is kind of rambling but I’m really annoyed at how snobbish at frankly elitist some people on this site can be. [name]Max[/name] Gotham is such a great name, any little boy would be lucky to have it. [name]Even[/name] I’d he’s more of a Spiderman fan…
I think it’s fine. It’s in the middle so most people won’t even know about it. I don’t know a boy (or even a man!) alive that wouldn’t be excited to have a Batman reference in their name. I have [name]Narnia[/name], Paravel, Prydain, Llyr, [name]Shire[/name], and Terabithia in a list of potential middle names though, so I’m biased. If it means something to you, by all means use it.
I like it and I am not a batman fan. [name]How[/name] many people ever know your middle name? I bet my best friend does not know mine.
Middle names have no rules in my world, i think [name]Max[/name] Gotham sounds great together! [name]Just[/name] go with what feels right for you and your partner
The middle spot is for going crazy, choosing quilty pleasure names or something more unusual. While it’s not my style, [name]Max[/name] Gotham sounds pretty cool so if you and your DH love it, I would encourage you to use it! Yeah, it’s completely outrageous but how many times will your son be using his mn anyway?
