Is Indigo unisex?

I love the idea of [name]Indigo[/name] for a little boy. NB lists it as a girls name, but in 2011 there were about the same number of boys and girls named [name]Indigo[/name] (about 65 each). What do you think? Could you see [name]Indigo[/name] on a little boy or an old man?

My daughter’s middle name is [name]Indigo[/name] so it’s hard to see it on a boy! :frowning:

[name]Indigo[/name] is a color, and therefore does not “belong” to either sex.

I don’t know, I’m usually very anti-unisex names, but up until a few years ago I always thought of [name]Indigo[/name] as a boy’s name. It’s a shade of blue and ends in an “o,” which you usually think of more in connection with boy names (although now with [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Marlowe[/name] and [name]Juno[/name] getting popular, maybe not). Now after seeing it so much for girls on here I’m starting to think of it more as like a kind of quiet but intense artsy girl’s name. I think it could totally still be awesome on a boy, though. It’s a great name!

I really like [name]Indigo[/name] for a boy, I actually like it on both genders. I slightly prefer it on a boy I think. I took it off my list though because I kept on seeing the name on girls’ in forums, it bothered me too much! I love to see other people using it though.

This. It’s genderless – could work on either.

TBH I think it’s quite masculine sounding. I had never thought about it for a boy but I really like it. [name]Indigo[/name] [name]August[/name] would be a great name!

i like it on a boy.

I prefer it on a boy, then a girl

I like it on both. I know a boy names [name]Indigo[/name] and it works very well on him. And it was a male character on a creepy tv show when I was little.

Colours are genderless so technically it’s a unisex name. With the “o” ending, I prefer it on a boy.

I only like it for a boy.

I could see it being unisex!

I think that it is so uncommon it works for a boy or a girl.

I prefer it on a girl. Can’t really picture it on a girl, probably because indigo is kind of a girly color. Most boys I know don’t really like things that are purple/purplish.

I think it could work for either a boy or girl.

I think [name]Indigo[/name] would work on either gender. I think I prefer “[name]Indigo[/name]” on a girl and “[name]Indie[/name]” on a boy. I have a thing for [name]Indiana[/name] [name]Jones[/name], haha.
