Is it acceptable?

Is it ok to name a baby [name]August[/name] even if they were not born in [name]August[/name]. I mean there’s enough kids called [name]May[/name] that weren’t born in [name]May[/name], and it happens with [name]April[/name] too, mbut it just feels kinda wrong, is it?

I wouldn’t think it a problem. Some people may assume that to begin with, but most won’t. Like you said, there are lots of [name]May[/name]'s and [name]April[/name]'s. [name]June[/name]'s too. There was [name]Just[/name] another poster asking about [name]August[/name], and their section at the bottom said he was expected in early [name]Winter[/name]. It reminds me of [name]Augustus[/name] more than it brings to mind a Month of the year. …Or [name]Augusta[/name], which was a favorite name of mine from a Soap [name]Opera[/name] when I was little.

This is a tough one.
the month names that are common names such as [name]June[/name] or [name]April[/name] or [name]May[/name] I wouldn’t make any assumptions about. But if I met a [name]January[/name] or [name]October[/name] I would figure that was their birth month.

[name]August[/name] is tough because [name]Augustus[/name] & [name]Augusta[/name] & [name]Augustine[/name] are established enough that I dont think that an [name]August[/name] would necessarily be born in [name]August[/name]…they might have a grandpa [name]Gus[/name] or something…or just parents that liked it!

Similarly I think that a girl called [name]Summer[/name] or [name]Autumn[/name] could be born whenever but meeting a [name]Winter[/name] who was born in [name]July[/name] would be somewhat odd.

My name is [name]April[/name], and I was born in February. I’ve spent most of my life with introductions followed by “Oh, is your birthday in [name]April[/name]?” ha ha. That said, it’s not really an issue to me. I’m due in [name]August[/name] and my baby’s mn is going to be snow, so I’ve definitely thought about mis-matched seasons. I say go with the name you like and don’t worry about it, thats what I ultimately came up with.

I think it’s totally fine.

[name]April[/name], [name]May[/name], [name]June[/name]/[name]Juno[/name], [name]August[/name]/[name]Augusta[/name]/[name]Augustine[/name], [name]Octavia[/name], [name]Summer[/name], [name]Autumn[/name], [name]Winter[/name]…

I still prefer those names for babies who are born in that month/season. But it’s totally okay if you choose not to.

[name]August[/name] I think is seperate enough from the month I would use it whenever.

[name]Winter[/name], well, haha, I’m Northern Hemisphere and DH is Southern… I would hope she was born in either Dec-Feb OR [name]June[/name]-Aug.

[name]Octavia[/name] is more eighth child to me than [name]October[/name], same as [name]Quentin[/name] and [name]Quade[/name] to me, not [name]April[/name] and [name]May[/name]. Maybe I’m weird though.

I actually wouldn’t use it if the child were born IN [name]August[/name], too cliche (CHEESY.) I like [name]August[/name] for a winter baby.

I can’t decide if I think it’s more odd that the child is born in the same month/season as their name or if they’re not born in the same month/season. Ultimately, I decided to ignore the month/season and use the name if I like it.

I think that using [name]August[/name] for a child not born in [name]August[/name] is absolutely fine.

I actually would think it was too cheesy to use it if your kid IS born in [name]August[/name]! I think a non [name]August[/name] bday is ideal for using it,personally.

Personally I think it’s odd… I don’t like month and day names for this reason. If you name your kid [name]Tuesday[/name] it’s expected they were born on a [name]Tuesday[/name], same with [name]August[/name], people will assume he was born in [name]August[/name]. Also the same with seasons, a [name]Summer[/name] would be assumed to be born in [name]Summer[/name]. In this case, I don’t think it’s totally wrong for people to assume that since that’s what you chose to name your baby, it’s just little cheesy.

But it’s more odd, imo, to name your kid [name]August[/name] if they were born in [name]May[/name].

Overall I hate month, days of the week, season names, because it’s odd no matter what and you set your kid up to be the target of reasonable assumptions.

This. I’ve known several people named [name]April[/name], [name]Summer[/name], [name]Autumn[/name] and I’ve never assumed that they were born during the month/season that they were named after.

I don’t think the month or season matters at all. However, I consider [name]August[/name] to be a boy’s name.

I think it would be cheesy if they were born in [name]August[/name]. My husband is named [name]August[/name], and he was born in [name]June[/name].

It’s not just acceptable, but personally, I think it’s better! I think it’s a little cheesy to name a child born in [name]August[/name], [name]August[/name], or a little girl born in [name]June[/name], [name]June[/name]. If they’re born any other month I think it works wonderfully!

I think it’s fine! I really wouldn’t worry about time names. I know a [name]Summer[/name] born in [name]March[/name], and someone with the MN [name]Summer[/name] who was born in [name]August[/name]; I know two Natalies that weren’t born around Christmastime; I know several people with the MN [name]Mae[/name], all of which weren’t born during [name]May[/name], etc., and besides, some people think it’d be cheesy to use a time name for when a child was born ([name]Winter[/name] for a winter baby, [name]Sunday[/name] for a baby born on [name]Sunday[/name], etc.), and some people think it is weird if you use a time name and it’s not descriptive of when the child was born. You know? So I just wouldn’t worry about it. If you love it, I would use it. I think [name]August[/name] is fabulous!

I think it would be much sillier for a child that WAS born in [name]August[/name] to be named [name]August[/name]. Why would you name your baby after their birth month? just my opinion.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable. [name]Just[/name] like you pointed out, many girls are named [name]April[/name], [name]May[/name], etc. even though they aren’t born in those months. So I think it can be the same with [name]August[/name]. Actually, I personally would find it too, for lack of a better word, matchy to name your child their birth month. I’m not sure why, I guess it would just be too blaringly obvious to name an [name]August[/name] baby [name]August[/name].
