I mean, I guess you could, but I think for me it’s too associated with the word ‘buff’ - Not sure that’s something I’d want.

As a nickname, it could work though

Following the previous posters point that it is acceptable, but really not advisable. Despite modern society often having the mindset that ‘anything goes’ I worry that some names stretch what is actually wearable. [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] could work as a nickname or pet name but I don’t think it has the structure or maturity to be professional sounding when the child is older. Plus I am concerned about potential teasing. Whilst kids are more often than not pretty accepting there are the few who feel the need to point out things that are unique or unusual.

It’s not the worst thing you could do, but I wouldn’t want to go through life with [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] as my full name. I think it would be better to just go with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and use [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] as the nickname you call her, since it is traditionally a diminutive of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

I definitely think it works, but my connection is more with a Canadian singer over the Vampire Slayer. If [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]Effie[/name_f] work, logically [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] should too.

It’s not socially unacceptable, but it’s not advisable. Cutesy names in general aren’t a great idea as they don’t age particularly well. If you just [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name, consider using it as a nickname. Or naming your next dog [name_f]Buffy[/name_f].

I can see the appeal of [name_f]Buffy[/name_f]. However, if it were my name, I would want a more formal name and have [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] as a nn.

It’s very similar to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (nn Muffy), [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Effie[/name_f]), and [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u])

If you dont like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], what about…
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Beulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Babette[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernice[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]

“In the buff” means naked where I’m from…

Socially acceptable, maybe, but I personally would not name a person [name_f]Buffy[/name_f]. A name is a big part of you and with you for 70/80 plus years. A parent needs to remember that the name is not their own, it is a gift they are bestowing on this human being. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] all you have done so far in your life and still have yet to do. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] carrying the names you are considering through all these life adventures. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] how often your name has been called out and used, and where, imagine if you would want these names being called out and used in all these situations. Creating lists and naming an actual person are two very different things. I enjoy creating names. It’s a hobby to me. I honestly have very few names I adore and would name an actual person. And naming an actual person is very hard and stressing.

I think it’s okay to use, after all, not every kid your child grows up with will know about the series [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] the Vampire Slayer. It’s not even a ‘bad’ association either.
The name also reminds me of singer [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] Sainte-[name_f]Marie[/name_f] (and she’s older than the show!)

Acoording to Wiki, [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] is actually a pet name for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. So you can name her [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a full name if you wish.

I always thought [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] the vampire slayers name was chosen to contrast with her kickass personality. Like, you wouldn’t imagine someone named [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] - (or [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], etc) to be someone who could save the world. Because [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] just sounds a bit posh and super girly.

However, with the vampire slayer now being so iconic, I think people going forward would just connect the name with the character and it could be sort of cool!

I’m with others who said maybe give a formal name and use it as a nickname just in case she wants something more serious!

Absolutely not. It’s a shame whenever cute names are just not socially acceptable. It is sort of cute, but she would forever get [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] the vampire slayer jokes. Maybe [name_u]Billie[/name_u] would be a good alternative with a similar vibe.

Better as a nickname or a name for a pet.

I’m one of those people who frequently falls in love with names from characters in books, movies, and shows, because that name suddenly becomes imbued with all the best qualities from that character and jumps up my list. I’m definitely not going to tell you not to use the name, because I think the character is an incredible inspiration and the show is one of my all-time favorites. I do think [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] is so iconic that you will have to pair it with something more sedate that she can use if she gets older and decides she can’t handle the association with the TV series. But if you love the name, go for it!
