Is it too much?

Hello everyone  I’ve just found this wonderful site a few days ago and it is has been great to read everyone’s opinions on names. My mother works on the mother-baby unit at a hospital and we have always loved to talk about the names everyone chooses (even the weird ones, like Possum). My question is do you think the name [name]Guinevere[/name] is just too much name for a person to carry? I just think that it is so beautiful and elegant, but I fear it may be too much. If it is too much, there are always cats that need to be named  I also love the nickname [name]Vera[/name]. The middle names I was thinking about are:
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Clover[/name] (an absolutely precious name that I had not heard of before visiting this site)
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Frances[/name]

Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can’t wait to hear your responses.

I adore [name]Guinevere[/name] - she’s lyrical and free-spirited whilst has history behind her, giving her substance  I personally don’t think she’s too much for a little girl to wear, especially with the perhaps more grounded nn option of [name]Vera[/name].

If you are concerned about wearability, why not pair her with a more grounded middle name? [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Frances[/name] works to this principle nicely! The flow is a little stilted to my Australian tongue, but I think she’s darling - [name]Frances[/name] has the effect of streamlining G a bit more. [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Wren[/name] is enchanting, but almost feels as though she’d fly away, as she doesn’t seem to have a lot of ‘sensibility’ behind her (if that makes any sense in anyone else’s head?). I’m really rather impartial to [name]Clover[/name] - she just feels very insubastantial to me, but she flows very well with [name]Guinevere[/name]!

These nn popped into my head as well:

  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Iris[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Isabel[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Maud[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Florence[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Niamh[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Olive[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]
  • [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Lucille[/name]

Hmm… they weren’t very good. Still - anything there that you like?

It’s a lot, but maybe not too much. I like it! I like the idea of [name]Wren[/name] as a middle name too.

I like [name]Guinevere[/name] and think [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Frances[/name] works best for reasons posted above. I think she’s much more likely to end up with the nickname [name]Gwen[/name] instead of [name]Vera[/name] however.

While I like the name [name]Wren[/name] I don’t think it works with [name]Guinevere[/name] – after such a lyrical first name it feels like a big clunk! at the end.

I think [name]Guinevere[/name] is fantastic, and I’m glad you decided to post! [name]Welcome[/name]!

I think [name]Clover[/name] is a great name, but I’m not feeling it with [name]Guinevere[/name]. [name]Clover[/name] has a down-home, country, homey, folksy feel (like [name]Mabel[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]), which to my ear, contrasts with [name]Guinevere[/name]'s regal elegance and sophistication.

[name]Sophie[/name] had a lot of great suggestions…

Some more:
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Esme[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Romilly[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Tamsin[/name]

If you’re not comfortable with [name]Guinevere[/name] up front, I think it would make a stunning middle name, too.

Best wishes to you!

Thanks so much for the comments everyone.
[name]Sophie[/name]- I love all of the middle names you posted, but seeing as though my last name is 4 syllables, I”d prefer the middle name to be 2 or less. My last name is such a mouthful as it is, but I love long names so much more. My favorites are [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Olive[/name] and especially [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Florence[/name]. I also love [name]Lucille[/name], but cannot use it because of family reasons. Thanks for all the great suggestions
[name]Pomme[/name]- I love [name]Wren[/name] as a middle name, too. Has to be my favorite as far as middle names go.
[name]Moxie[/name]- I know she would end up with the nn [name]Gwen[/name] just like I always end up being called [name]Ash[/name] (definitely not the most beautiful nn is the world) because at least in my family, we grab the first syllable of a name and use it. [name]Dennis[/name] becomes [name]Den[/name] and [name]Keri[/name] becomes Ker. But I love the nn [name]Vera[/name] and I think it would work if I said it enough. [name]Worth[/name] a try anyways! Fortunately, I love [name]Gwen[/name] also.

I just want to add [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Celeste[/name], and [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] to my list above!

Wow, thanks so much for all the suggestions. I love [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Tamsin[/name] (never heard of this one before, but I”m beginning to like it), [name]Isolde[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name]. But my favorite is [name]Guinevere[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. I really love the way it sounds. Out of all the suggested names, [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Jane[/name] are definitely at the top. Thanks so much everyone!

I think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], while beautiful, is going to be very tough for a child to wear

I don’t think [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is too hard to wear. I think that it’s definitely a heavy name, but it’s beautiful and elegant, and with a grounded nn it would be more than fine. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is pretty but I’m a big fan of “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]” too. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] could be an alternate for you - nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f]?

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] - I really love this. The Rs might be a little heavy, but I think it’s absolutely stunning. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is so unique, modern and spunky and balances out the older fashioned, elegant [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f].

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Clover[/name_f] - It’s pretty and flows well, but it doesn’t stick out to me like [name_u]Wren[/name_u]!

[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - This is more grounded, which could be helpful as other posters have mentioned. However, it does feel more outdated to me because [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] has been used over the last few decades, and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] feels old fashioned to me. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t get me wrong, it flows beautifully - I would just personally prefer a more modern feeling middle (like [name_u]Wren[/name_u])!

It’s not too much. I do like the name “[name_u]Wren[/name_u]” paired with it or another one-syllable name. Good luck!
