Is it unique enough?

Help! We love the name [name_f]Esme[/name_f] for a potential girl, and I have found the mn [name_f]Faye[/name_f] to go with. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] loosely means “beloved fairy,” which I love! However other names we love are all longer first names with short mn. We like this theme and would consider keeping it consistent. So we thought if [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f], however I’m hesitant because I know [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is a popular Disney name. I haven’t seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame in years and don’t even know the plot, so I wouldn’t be naming her after it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s okay? I adore the name, but could I actually use it? [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]

I think both [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] nn [name_f]Esme[/name_f] are both very usable.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] does make me think of Hunchback, but she’s a cool character and I’m sure it won’t be everyone’s first thought even if it is mine.

[name_f]Emerald[/name_f] could also be nn [name_f]Esme[/name_f] I think, if you wanted something that still a bit longer and more unique without the Disney connection.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I don’t think that The Hunchback of Notre Dame is that popular of a Disney movie. [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is kind of a bold character anyway though, & not a terrible namesake. I think that the original character in the play from the 1800s was maybe a little more…lady of the nightish. Sooo, that could be something too consider. That being said, I love love just [name_f]Esme[/name_f] . [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is so sweet. I’d leave it how it is.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Thanks! [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] is a great suggestion! And I may just leave it [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] but will discuss with DH for opinion.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is a gorgeous name! I’m going to echo what previous posters have said. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is not a popular Disney movie compared to the other films that came out in the Disney renaissance (think [name_m]Lion[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m], [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc.). On top of that, [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is a pretty cool character and not a bad namesake.

In terms of popularity, [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] has been hovering around #370 since 2014, being used for 826 little girls in 2018. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is even further down the list at #556 (climbing, but slowly), used for 552 girls in 2018. I don’t think either one is popular. I’ve never met a girl with either name.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] “[name_f]Esme[/name_f]” would be my pick! That way you get to use all the names you love.

I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is lovely, and the meaning is gorgeous! [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is also a beautiful name. As someone who speaks a bit of Spanish, my first thought when I hear [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is the meaning, “emerald”.

I agree the Hunchback of Notre Dame is not as popular as other Disney films of the same era, so I don’t think the Disney association is something to worry about. Plus, the actual story is much older than the Disney version. It was written by [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] in 1831, so [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is a literary name.

Thanks for the help! Loving the feedback and feel more confident in the use if [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]. I love gems and stones so the “emerald” relation is gorgeous.

I love, love [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is lovely so it is the one I would choose. [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is fine but long so I feel that it may be shortened which then I wonder if it is better to choose the name that she is likely to go by. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] has a lovely, sophisticated and elegant vibe.

Esmeray is gorgeous and I will for sure consider it! Thank you!

I like [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] best. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] rhymes to me, which I find I like best in a nickname and not a full name. I do know an [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Esme[/name_f] so that would be a great option.

I think its usable, and very pretty. The hunchback was never a very popular Disney movie and while some adults might make the connection I dont think you will get a lot of comments about it. I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] works wonderfully and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] has a beautiful sound.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is adorable, but I like [name_f]Esmerelda[/name_f] too! I had no idea of the Disney association.

I wouldn’t have recognized the connection either until I came across it randomly and realized it. I don’t mind it so either so the affirmation helps lots!

I think of the ballet based on the classic book. [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] is a beautiful name with [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] as a nickname. The ballet or the classic novel are where my head go well before Disney.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] sounds pretty.
