My husband and I adore the name [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f]. However, every time I mention this name to family or friends they make fun of it and talk about how unusable it is. What do you think? Usable or not?
If you live in an English-speaking country, I wouldn’t use it. It’s a difficult set of sounds to make come out of my mouth. [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f] would be more usable.
My only connection with that name is [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f] too. And [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f] Mott is awesome. So that’s a bonus.
I think it’s beautiful and totally usable.
I only think of [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f] Borgia, who is a… controversial namesake, to say the least.
I absolutely thinks It’s usable, and honestly think is sounds better than [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f].
My family teased us too over the name [name_m]Archimedes[/name_m], but we stuck to our guns because we loved the name and now that he’s here no one teases or complains.
[name_m]Archimedes[/name_m] is such an awesome name!
And I’m definitely worried about the teasing if we do go with [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f]. Hoping once my family actually meets her, they won’t say anything. But it makes me really hesitant to use the name.
[name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f] is lovely! I love [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f] too.
Fortunately your child will meet thousands of people in her life, not just your family. I think the name is amazing.
I think [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f] has a lot going for it. My first association is [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f] Borgia, but I wouldn’t assume you’d named your child after her if you used it.
I know an American girl named [name_f]Venezia[/name_f] and she seems to do okay with her name, though she does occasionally go by [name_f]Venice[/name_f].
The name makes me think of ludicrous or lucrative. Maybe a middle name instead?
Hmmm…names like these are a bit tricky. It’s very pretty in theory, but I don’t know if it’s usable… At least not if your little girl doesn’t have a recognisable nickname like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
I’d say it’s a bit much
It’s a big name, but a beautiful one. Does this name fit with your heritage at all? I would think that would make the name more easily “explainable”—but sometimes love for a name doesn’t need an explanation either. I think it’s a cool name, and I think a short nickname like [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] (or even [name_u]Zia[/name_u]?) would maybe make it feel more approachable for your family. Hopefully they’ll come around, but the most important thing in my mind is that a name is a gift you give your child with love and consideration. As long as you live it and have considered all the pros and cons I’d say yes, it’s usable, and beautiful.
I think the problem I have isn’t that it’s a grand name or the sound of it, but the first connotation for anyone who’s previously heard the name is likely to the the Borgias. And that is not a good association! So for me, no, probably not usable.
Definitely usable but negative associations put me off.
I love the idea of [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f], it’s such a stunning and dramatic name. I love the nn Crez (“cretz”) for it. With [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f] Borgia being my first and only reference and probably many other people’s though, I’m not sure how I’d feel about seeing it on a real person. I love seeing bold names, but feel like names that have a strong association with a certain person/character only works if it’s a positive association/someone to look up to, like [name_m]Archimedes[/name_m] as mentioned above.
If you did use it though, she’d have the option of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a nickname if she wanted something more normal, which makes it more accessible than an unusual name with no easy nicknames.
