Agreed. There are at least 15 Johns in my family tree, and I hear it multiple times every day through work. I’m honestly sick of [name]John[/name]–but I do find it refreshing as a double-barrel (like [name]John[/name] [name]Michael[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Marcus[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]August[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Peter[/name], etc.!). [name]John[/name] Ackers/[name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] is a pretty cool name, though. I prefer just [name]Jack[/name], but that’s just me.
I think [name]John[/name] is a perfectly good name with lots of nice nickname options ([name]Johnny[/name], [name]Jack[/name], etc) but I would advise against using [name]Evelyn[/name] in the middle. It’s very popular for girls these days and I feel like any boy with the middle name would most likely be embarassed by it.
I love [name]Jack[/name]/[name]Jackie[/name] and hate nn names so I’m a [name]John[/name] fan. It balances out [name]Evelyn[/name] nicely.
I think it’s a little boring, but it still is a strong, classic name. My dad’s name is [name]John[/name] and there were several popular boys that went to my high school (just a few years ago) named [name]John[/name].
edit: but I would advise against using [name]Evelyn[/name], even if it is a family name or something. it’s all girl nowadays and it sounds silly next to the solid masculine sound of [name]John[/name].
I think [name]John[/name] is fine, especially if the last name is a distinctive one. For example, [name]John[/name] Burlingame would not be boring, but [name]John[/name] [name]Smith[/name] or [name]Jones[/name] would not be ideal.
I agree with pps who said that any boy would likely be embarrassed by the middle name [name]Evelyn[/name]. [name]Even[/name] if [name]Evelyn[/name] originated as a boy’s name long ago, it never got much use as a boy’s name. Virtually no knows it was ever a boy’s name, and Evelyn has became a well-known, classic girls’ name. Someone said that [name]John[/name] sounds silly next to [name]Evelyn[/name], but – if you do use [name]Evelyn[/name] – I believe a solidly masculine first name is essential. He would fare MUCH better in life as [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] than [name]Sidney[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name].
Yeah, sorry not a fan either, partially cuz it’s so common in my family history (my dad’s name, my grandpa’s name, my great grandpa’s name, my great great grandpa’s name-- not to mention two cousins and an uncle). My dad doesn’t like his name at all and my grandpa choose to always go by his middle name.
Not boring at all.
I find names like [name]Ethan[/name] boring, they’re the ones you hear all the time.
I really like the name [name]John[/name]. But I would hesitate to pick it because even with a more uncommon middle name, he would be known as his first name, not first and second together, and might blend in too much.
It is a shame that a lot of the best male names have been over-used to the point of becoming bland. I feel the same way about [name]James[/name], [name]Micheal[/name], [name]Paul[/name], [name]Peter[/name], and [name]Jack[/name]. All of which I love.
It is a challenge to find classic names that are not either over-used or weird sounding!
I don’t think [name]John[/name] is boring, as I NEVER hear it on the younger generations. [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] would be a superb choice. I’ve always thought it was interesting that a community who is so against boys’ names on girls would warn you away from [name]Evelyn[/name] as a boy’s middle name. Where’s that “GIVE IT BACK TO THE BOYS!” spirit now, huh?
Yeah, I think it is way too boring. [name]How[/name] about [name]Ian[/name]? It is a variant of [name]John[/name].
[name]John[/name] will never go out of style, be boring, etc. It’s a classic, handsome name with lots of nickname possibilities. I love the nickname [name]Jack[/name], but it doesn’t really work with your surname. (I also love the name [name]Chase[/name], but our last name is You)
As for [name]Evelyn[/name], I don’t really like it. Are you honoring a family member, perhaps? If you are, you might save that name for a daughter. [name]John[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] Ackers is a very cute sibling set.
Another idea for a middle name is [name]John[/name] [name]Andrew[/name].
Best of luck!
I don’t think it’s boring. You have the option of calling him [name]Johnny[/name] or [name]Jack[/name], too. But… Isn’t [name]Evelyn[/name] a girl’s name…?
I don’t think [name]John[/name] is boring at all. I have to advise against [name]Evelyn[/name], to most people it’s a girls name. However if you still want to use it despite this pairing it with a name like [name]John[/name], something clearly masculine is your best bet.
No, I love [name]John[/name]! I never hear it anymore, but it’s still a lovely classic that I would love to hear anywhere!
It’s a bit dull for me. I know several Johns of various ages. I thinking’s handsome, but a bit boring . Sorry!
Not really. It depends on the second name. I think it would sound good with a longer and less popular second name. I also like the nn [name]Johnny[/name].
[name]John[/name] is handsome and classic. And [name]Evelyn[/name] as a middle name on a boy would be a fresh and unexpected choice, and not necessarily in a bad way, though a boy with this name might disagree.
Not at all, I love [name]John[/name]! It would be so much more interesting on a baby than something trendy like [name]Kai[/name] or [name]Grey[/name].
I don’t think you can go wrong with a classic like [name]John[/name].
I don’t find [name]John[/name] boring at all. It’s not used much on children these days, and [name]Johnny[/name] is adorable on a youngster. If you think it’s boring, you could use [name]Jonathan[/name] nn [name]Jon[/name]/[name]John[/name], or [name]Jonah[/name]/[name]Jonas[/name] would also get nn [name]Jon[/name]/[name]John[/name] though the full name is pronounced slightly differently. Or even [name]Johnson[/name], as the -son names are coming into trend, if [name]Jackson[/name]'s a name why not [name]Johnson[/name]?
